Whats the correct defence against orange attacks?
New and I don't know all the moves yet, what's a safe option against most of these attacks?
Dashing to the side?

They're ublockables
So parrying or dodging them are your options.
Unless it's a bash which you do need to dodge.
You can block it if its not a push, you click right mouse button at the right time, could be hard to time it right at first, not all of them tho, best for u to dodge, you just have to feel it right :) hope i helped

honestly unblockables have ruined this game. Its turned defence into a guessing game, your opponent will either commit the attack or feint and open guard. The only way to win is like the lottery get lucky.

Got it, so if it looks like an attack you parry it, while if it looks like a grapple/bash you dodge
Would you suggest mouse or controller?

If it's orange but there's no directional red indicator, that's a bash. With time you'll learn hero's movesets, so make sure to not stick to a single hero only

What would you suggest as a working combat system? All fighting games are built on to read games. If there were no unblockables this game would be nothing. You wouldn't be able to do anything but just wait for your enemy to do the first move so you can punish it. Would be meaningless an boring.

If it shows an directional indicator then you have multiple options. You can dodge but, some unblockables (orange attacks) can track your dodge if you dodge them too early so you should practice them. Not all of them track but you'll figure it out as you play. As an alternative you can parry the attack. You put your guard to same direction as the attack comes and then hit the heavy button just before the attack connects. You can see that window with a white flash for a brief moment. It stops your enemy and gives you a free light to hit after that parry. The important thing about unblockable attacks is you shouldn't always try to counter them. They can be feinted which means your opponent actually can counter your counter attack this way. If you want more details I can help you with that but for now I'll explain the other type of orange attack, bashes. Bashes are moves thay you need to dodge. They have no directional indicator but just an orange symbol. Some bashes are fast so you actually need to dodge them before you see them. Like kyoshin's bash or aramusha's bash. For heroes like kyoshin you need to dodge when you see that your opponent dodges forward. This means he can throw a bash but maybe he's just baiting you to dodge. You need to make a read in this situation. Kyoshin has a in chain bash as well. You'll figure out that it comes out only after certain attacks as you play and learn new heroes. For heroes like aramusha you need to dodge the bash when you see an opener heavy indicator. He can soft-feint it to a bash which is so fast. Some heroes have chargable bashes which has 3 levels. To avoid level 1 you need to dodge early. To avoid level 3 you need to wait until your opponent fully charges their bash and then dodge. It depends full on your and your opponents reads. These might sound complicated but you'll understand them easily as learn new heroes and their movesets.

You can just dodge attack too. It's very effective but, highly punishable as well.
