"Deus vult" is a latin phrase that means "God wills it," and it's strongly associated with the crusaders of medieval times. Not sure if it was actually ever uttered by them (or at least as a battlecry), but it's come to be strongly associated with knights and you see it referenced in almost any medieval game community.

Highly doubtful. Considering the sheer breadth of illiteracy in the medieval world, it's highly doubtful that anything but the highest echelon of the Crusader Knights understood it its full context, would use it outside of the longer sentence (cant remember, sorry) and even less could speak Latin to fact check it.

This whole Deus Vult thing has been a bit overblown by internet culture. Although, saying that, actually typing in the term still only brings up idiot Lefty journo rags trying to tell us it's an 'alt right' warcry, so it could be a bit of good ol' Streisand effect.
