Should I deflect?

Hello there! I am rep 8 orochi. I can parry lights most of the time and started to learn to deflect. I find deflecting way harder than parrying. Is it worth it to go for a deflects or should I stick with parries? It feels like deflect window is like 1/2 of a parry window or maybe it’s bcs D/A/W+space is just very uncomfortable to perform, I dunno.

Parry lights but deflect heavies is what I usually did but it depends on the given situation which is something you need to learn with practise!

Deflect is kinda hard to get used to but once you actually learn it it's definitely worth it. The only assassin you shouldn't really bother deflecting with is Gladiator and thats only if your fighting someone with hyper armor.

Deflect attacks are damn good.

Deflecting is harder than parrying. One reason is that deflects actually have a 100ms startup while parries are instant. So parries take place the moment you press the button, but with deflects, you have to dodge even earlier to allow the deflect frames to kick in.

Another reason for the difficulty of deflects is how they interact with side attacks. Parries are the same in every guard direction. You press the button, and a parry occurs. Simple and easy. With deflects, side and top attacks have different timings.

Have you ever noticed that top attacks are way easier to deflect than side? That's because of invincibility frames (i-frames) in your dodge. The way it works is, there is a window of time where you can deflect. Then for side attacks, there is an extra window inside that where i-frames are applied. So the window for an actual deflect is very small. Dodge too early, you end up just dodging the attack. Dodge too late and you get hit.

TLDR: You should probably just stick to parrying on Orochi. His deflect is not really worth the risk.

I've noticed this as well, good explanation unlike most post in here. I also think deflecting is not really that viable in any hero. It's best just to punish or parry.

I use deflects right before I throw out an agressive combo to get inside the opponents head and make them less likely to respond correctly to my next few attacks. With orochi you have the best deflect as you can choose between heavy and light. For me, kensei has the best deflects because they're jarring and abrasive, visually and audibly, as well as resetting the fight back to neutral. Even though they do no damage, the neutral game afterwards is in your advantage because of how thrown off the enemy is. This only works if you have a "yomi" playstyle.

dont deflect, theres no point , its just a way to get punished , im rep 45 and i used to deflect 2 seasons ago but now theres no point since most characters have soft feints

Okay, rep 45 means a lot. Deflecting is way harder too so...
