What is this Emblem?

I've seen this emblem in most of my games throughout my entire time in For Honor. It looks like a paddle with the top part being red and the other half which looks like the hilt of the paddle being white and always uses a purple background. Is this some sort of signifigance in Japan or China? Is it a war symbol or what?

Weren't Ninjas basically farmers that decided to take up arms a long time ago? This one weeb earlier had the emblem I talked about and used nothing but Aramusha. It took all 4 of us to finally kill him due to him running away when it's a 1v1. And when we finally won the match after 3 losses, he raged quit.
