For Honor: PC Starter Edition FAQ
Hello Everyone,

Today we’re releasing For Honor: Starter Edition on PC (UPLAY and Steam). The full details can be found here: http://ubi.li/e3z52

Here are the quick details:

  • $15 USD / 15 Euro
  • All game content, maps, modes, and events are available in the package
  • No split between Standard Edition and Starter Edition player bases
  • 3 Vanguard Heroes come fully Unlocked
  • 3 additional Heroes (of your chosen Faction) are playable but not Recruited
  • Unlocking Launch Heroes is 8,000 Steel
  • Unlocking DLC (Post-Launch) Heroes is still 15,000 Steel
We wanted to give you a little insight into why we've created this new, cheaper entry into For Honor right now.

With Dedicated Servers now delivered and bringing with them stability and connectivity we’ve never before seen in For Honor, the team believes that the time is right to open the gates for more players to enter the game. We feel this lower price point for the game will greatly reduce the barrier to entry for players across the world.

The health of our community is one of my main concerns. The Starter Edition is just one of the tactics we’ll be using this year to continue growing the game, and our community. While our console players currently enjoy the benefits of a very vibrant and sizeable playerbase, our PC players have not had the same experience. A larger player population on PC will be better for the health of our PC community, helping to reduce matchmaking times and opponent variety, while also increasing the level of competition in game.

If you have questions, please read this FAQ we’ve assembled, and if they still aren’t answered, please post below!

Q. What is the For Honor Starter Edition?
A. The Starter Edition allows full access to the For Honor game on PC for a lower price with a difference in the number of playable/customizable heroes and the unlocking system for non-playable/non-customizable heroes.

Q. What content is available? What content is not available?
A. The Starter Edition offers the same game modes and maps as the standard edition.
The only difference is the the number of playable/customizable heroes and the unlocking system for non-playable/non-customizable heroes (see Q3).

Q. What is the unlocking system for heroes in the Starter Edition?
A. Below is an overview of the unlocking system of the starter edition in comparison to the Standard Edition:

The Starter Edition:

  • Fully unlocks the 3 vanguard heroes (Warden, Raider, Kensei). Fully unlocked characters are both playable and customizable (weapons, armor, emotes, executions, effects, etc).
  • Provides 3 additional playable Heroes, depending on the faction you have picked (Vikings, Samurai, Knights). You can fully unlock these heroes for 8,000 steel (in-game currency) each to be able to customize them.
  • Allows 6 additional heroes (from the two non-chosen factions) to be fully unlocked (playable and customizable) for 8,000 steel each.
  • Allows heroes from post-launch seasons (including Centurion, Gladiator,Shinobi, Aramusha, Shaman and Higlander) to be fully unlocked for 15,000 steel (same as in the Standard Edition)

Example: A player who bought the Starter Edition and selects the Knight Faction as the faction of their choice will have access to: Warden (fully unlocked), Raider (fully unlocked), Kensei (fully unlocked), Conqueror (playable), Peacekeeper (playable), Lawbringer (playable). The Conqueror, Peacekeeper and Lawbringer are then recruitable to allow customization for 8,000 Steel. All remaining Heroes from launch are fully unlockable for 8,000 Steel too. All heroes from post-launch seasons are fully unlockable for 15,000 Steel.

Q. How can I fully unlock or purchase other Heroes?
A. Heroes can be fully unlocked with in-game currency known as steel. Steel can be acquired through playtime. 8,000 Steel is equal to 8-15 hours of gameplay (depending on how you play) or, if players would like to unlock heroes instantaneously, they have the option to purchase steel through the in-game store.

Players can also fully unlock the remaining heroes from launch (vanguards already fully unlocked) with the All Hero Bundle for 50,000 Steel. Heroes released in post-launch seasons remain 15,000 Steel.

Q. Can I upgrade my Starter Edition to Standard Edition?
A. A player who bought the Starter Edition will always launch the game as For Honor: Starter Edition, however, the content unlocked from the All Hero Bundle for 50,000 Steel grants players the same amount of playable/customizable heroes as the Standard Edition. Note that this has no effect whatsoever on matchmaking and content available, this only affects the title of the version that you are launching.

Q. If I have refunded the For Honor Standard Edition and now purchased the For Honor Starter Edition, will this affect the progression and unlocking pricing of the the Starter Edition?
A. If you have refunded the standard edition where you have unlocked some heroes from launch (for 500 Steel each) and have now purchased the Starter Edition; the price of the Heroes that you have unlocked in the Standard Edition will be 7,500 Steel (8,000 - 500 Steel) in the Starter Edition. If a player has unlocked any of the Heroes from the post-launch seasons in the Standard Edition, these heroes remain fully unlocked in the Starter Edition.

Your progression and customization on said heroes will carry on and are accessible once you fully unlock the Hero(es) in the Starter Edition.

For heroes already fully unlocked (vanguards) progression carries on automatically.

Q. In which country will the Starter Edition be available?
A. The Starter Edition is available in all the same countries as the Standard Edition is on Uplay and Steam.

Q. Is this starter edition also planned on console?
A. For the moment, the Starter Edition is only available on PC.

Q. If I refund the Starter Edition and then purchase the Standard Edition, will this affect my progression in the Standard Edition?
A. All progression achieved in the Starter Edition will carry over to the Standard Edition.

Q. If I played any For Honor's Free weekends, will this affect my progression and unlocking pricing in the Starter Edition?
A. If you have unlocked some heroes from launch (for 500 Steel each) during any For Honor's Free Weekend and have now purchased the Starter Edition; the price of the Heroes that you have unlocked in the Standard Edition (during Free Weekend) will be 7,500 Steel (8,000 - 500 Steel) in the Starter Edition. If a player has unlocked any of the Heroes from the post-launch seasons in any of the Free-Weekends, these heroes remain fully unlocked in the Starter Edition.

Your progression and customization on said heroes will carry on and are accessible once you fully unlock the Hero(es) in the Starter Edition.

For Heroes already fully unlocked (vanguards) progression carries on automatically.

Q. Does playing through the Starter Edition restrict me to only playing with/against people who have it as well?
A. No. The Starter Edition gives players access to the same servers and matchmaking as the Standard Edition. This means players from the Starter Edition can matchmake with players from the Standard Edition.

Sounds familiar. Hmmmmmm.

Regardless, not a bad plan, but I think the hero reworks is what will keep the new players playing. Hopefully they come soon.
I think lowering the price of the reg version to about 30 would also help a lot. I love the game and play it almost everyday but i think 60 is a little high for this game.

Connectivity and stability you've never seen before? I realize the latency and the d/c's are worse, but is it really that bad? I mean, you'd think that at some point in the testing phase it was worse...

Hmm, well I can understand wanting more players in the game...And, ofc, you gotta make up for the lower price of the game, via trying to get more steel purchases...

> 8000 steel is about 8-15 hours of play.

Kind of says alot about the payout of the modes when there's that big of a difference

I don’t know about the 8000 steel for the starters, while the normal edition was 500. It sounds excessive.

Ι have to agree that 8000 steel is a bit overkill. It'd take someone like 120 hours and more to unlock all the heroes, and that only if he doesn't buy any cosmetics.Something like 6000 or at least 7000 would be a bit more reasonable.

wait so some1 who gets the starter version gets all 3 vanguards fully unlocked, literally everything they have right now?o.O does this mean the same for ppl who have the standard edition prior to all this? and if not, can i downgrade?xD

Yeah, Starter pack is all well and good, but I'd rather wait for the Delux Edition to be on sale to an afordable price so I don't pay or grind for extra. But for those that like the Starter Edition, have fun...I'll wait alittle longer.

Stop this crap I fell for this ♥♥♥♥ in Rainbox 6 and I haven't played that game much because of that ♥♥♥♥... don't sell this version of a game. This is a free to play model. so don't charge 15€ for this.
Good idea on pinning this again Jurassic, looks like a lot of people are interested in the Starter Edition lately.

Just to be clear: I can decide to ONLY get the Season Pass to upgrade my Starter Edition at one point to unlock all the DLCs characters?
