I use a KB/M and its working for me. Honestly is all comes down to self preference.
It all comes down to personal preference. Competitive players use both.
There are some small hiccups with both though.
Gamepad: If you don't edit your joystick deadzone to be smaller/non-existent you will have trouble parrying light attacks (Any 500ms attack really) and the default Counter-Guardbreak button is X/Square, so you have to remove your thumb from the joystick to CGB without rebinds. I have absolutely no trouble with this as I've built up muscle memory but it peeves some people.
KB/M: If your sensitivity is high you might experience Guard-Slippage™ because any slight movement of the mouse will trigger a guard switch. Some people prefer this, though. A mouse with extra buttons for the thumb is great for rebinds (Specifically the GB key) so you don't have to reach to E (I think the default is E, could be wrong. Edit: Yes, was wrong. It's MMB. E is feint.)
Just use what you're more comfortable with.
