Until your opponent falls asleep and your attack finally goes through.
Seriously though, the best thing you can do with kensei is feint spam and turtle until your opponent makes a mistake and then capitalize on it. Sadly his dodge attack is telegraphed and EXTREMELY slow and easy to parry thus leaving you open for a heavy attack/punish. His only reliably fast attack is a top light which EVERYBODY expects so it'll get parried by competent players. From neutral, your left side attacks both have extremely good tracking and range so it can sometimes catch people off guard... SOMETIMES (and after once or twice, most non-noob players will stop falling for it and actually punish you with parries). Watch him to see a good kensei in action and maybe you'll learn some (though he plays aggressively on purpose, otherwise it would be boring to watch): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3xoW1qnG6NpgCXYRLmrzWQ
Simply put,you lack tools. That's why for me kensei is the weakest in the game.Even conqueror at least has a semi-decent shield bash that allows him to poke opponents or go for a heavy if it's a forward shield bash(although he did lose his superior block so until the reworks he is definetely a strong contenstant for the For Honor's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ competition)
The few tips you need to know
-Unblockable can be cancelled into side heavies and the dash.If you are fast enough the forward dash into gb can catch opponents off guard sometimes.Works better when opponent is oos.
-You feint a lot, obviously.Experiment in training and see for yourself what moves are best feinted, although usually what you'll end with is feinting everything into the top light until they catch on,start parrying, and then you get depressed and quit the game
-Oof,let's see, what else.I guess you could use the superior block dodges, although I find it rather risky and not rewarding enough most of the time-it's like a deflect, only more garbage.
-Throws blind opponents-if the developers have finally put a pommel strike move as an actual opener in his new moveset I am legit converting to Shinto-and you can try taking them by suprise by going for a side heavy finisher while they are blinded for a bigger reward if there is no wall nearby-seeing as how the throw blinds,I guess the developers actually expected people to use throws to cover their side heavies, because obviously blinding the opponent is more than enough to make a side heavy unpredictable.
-While writing this I realise how little things Kensei actually has to use, when I was doing a similar list for Highlander I could've kept writing for like an hour
-Feinting attacks into forward dash attack usually isn't a bad idea, supposing you don't make it obvious.
-Always focus on using lights, since the only reason for you to get a heavy is if you parried or got a lucky gb.At least they do 20 damage.
-And the most important tip of all, stop being stupid and wait for the rework in like 2 weeks,do you want to get depressed or what?
The season 5 is starting on 15th of feb but the rework is (sadly) not confirmed to have any date so it probably will not be on the same date as season 5 starts.
2)guard break
3)Top heavy
or
1)vault left/right
2)Top heavy
The reworks (As well as tweaks for HL and Nobu) go live at the beginning of Season V.
"All this begins with Age of Wolves on February 15, where we will refine five of the existing Heroes at launch and push our dedicated servers following the launch of the Season."

Top heavy orange glow attack, feint, top light.
All in about 3 sec.
It was a deadly combo.
Unless he was lagging, it really wasn't.
