(especially since it was mentioned in the story that the Knight's Legions were founded by "Centurions", and additionally in history it was more or less the same to some extent (Roman Empire became the Holy Roman Yadda yadda which became several central European nations which had knights and stuff) so it's not too unreasonable to assume the lore that some Knights in the game just looked at their ancestors and thought: "Hey their fighting styles are cool so we could copy them to help against those Vikings and Samurai" or something)
Oh wait, you did comment on the thread. It is almost like people are allowed to speak out against things they disagree with.
So with that out of the way, the only thing making Centurion a Gladiator is an execution with a pop culture reference to another historically innaccurate piece of media.
