How I rendered feinting virtually useless
We all have been there, right?
Higher levels in For Honor. Enemy throws heavy attack at you, you try to parry it only for him to feint and suddenly you are the one throwing your heavy attack into nothing, just asking to be parried.
This caused me to almost stop parrying entirely, well, until today.

Today, I found a way around it.
First of all, after 35 hours with the controller, I switched to mouse and keyboard, it's a personal preference, for me it's faster and allows me to block better.

Today, I was messing around with the timings in the training.
Parry window seems to have roughtly 250ms, give or take. Feint seems to have 400ms, meaning after you begin your attack, you have 400ms to press the feint button. Anything later than that won't be registered.
But on the other hand, if you feint too early, you wont be able to parry. As soon as you feint even if you are in parry animation, you will get hit.

I dont belive it is possible for you to feint-react when you miss the parry and feint as well.
I have seen people throwing a heavy attack and feinting it as soon as they saw an enemy attack incoming, but beying parry baited is quite different situation.
I've never seen anyone beying parry baited and feint it, even thought its physicaly possible.

So I wrote a macro for it.
When you press the RMB, you start a heavy attack like usual. But after 350ms (attacking itself takes time as well, anything above this wasn't consistant), mouse checks if you are still holding down RMB, and if so, it feints your attack.

Therefore:
  • Tapping RMB - Normal heavy attack
  • Holding RMB - Feinted heavy attack

As you guessed, you parry by holding down RMB. Since feint window is larger, if enemy attacks as normal, you parry. If enemy feints, you feint as well.

I've done some testing, and there are downsides.
Fast characters like Orochi or PK can still hit you with a light attack before the game manages to feint you. But that is heavily incosistant, I would say 50% time they are not attacking fast enought and you still manage to block it.

For other characters, this renders their feint game virtualy useless.
No more beying scared of parries.

Naturaly there are more downsides to this, for example Conqueror wich can't feint and you are physicaly not able to charge your heavy attack unless you macro a different button for it.
I supose I could modify it for Conqueror, that holding RMB would throw him from heavy attack into full block stance, wich might work even better againts light characters parry baiting you.

Overall, it might be a little rough around the edges, but parry baiting is not gonna happen.
What do you guys think?

Conq can feint by going into full guard block.

Seems not exactly on the up-and-up...

I and most other mid to high level players reliably feint their missed parries. You have more time to react than you think because usually by the time you actually hit the heavy attack button to parry you already know they feinted giving you tons of time to react.

I didn't think this was possible, never was that beying done, but I belive you and other players are capable of this.
Still my option seems easier and safer, don't you think?

I didn't read with much attention... but let me ask: Are you playing with a macro activated for your mouse?

Eh, I condsider macros to be cheating in a fighting game. Also the real way to render feinting useless is just to never parry unless they are out of stam. Turtle until they make a mistke and punish unless they are one of the top 4 in which case abuse your abilities that make you top 4 or accept your defeat if you are playing someone else.

tl;dr — Yes.

Well it's not an external program, it's a gaming mouse, macro is physicaly in it's own memory.

This is cheating.

you used to get graphics cards with inbuilt wallhax, that doesn't mean it wasn't cheating...
