Strict Nat Type
Sorry to bring this up here in the discussions, but I've been having a strict nat type the entire time I've played For Honor.

I have tried many different solutions that has helped other people, such as port forwarding, turning off/on UPnP, allowing For Honor through my firewall (which I did in the very beginning since installing the game)

If anyone has any surefire solutions to set a strict nat to at least moderate if not open, assistance would be appreciated!

Thats on your ISP so basically there is nothing you can do but hope they get dedicated servers which is not going to happen

port forwarding isn't going to help at all. strict nat means you don't have good ping or you don't have good internet in general.

strict is still playable. had it on COD back on xbox 360 and it was fine. only reason people like you complain about p2p is because you have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ internet

Connection is a two-way street ya know.
People with great internet will experience issues if one of the people they're connecting to has worse internet, and considering plenty of places in the U.S. don't have a lot of options (somtimes having only one singular choice of provider) it's quite often no-one's fault but the ISP, and this screws over the gameplay for everyone this one person ends up playing with.

In 1v1's and 2v2's this isn't a MAJOR issue, fighting games have always been like this anyway, but in modes like dominion, servers absolutely are a requirement. Whether the match goes perfectly smooth or not is completely pot-luck.

I bought the game in the ubi store, turning off my steam fixed my NAT issues. I know its not a big help here but it seems like for honor doesnt like that other programs using its internet.

Edit: NVM! turned to strict NAT after 2 matches...

No, NAT is directly connected to ports. It's a device's ability to consistently speak to your machine. That's how it works for peer to peer games, office computer networks, security camera feeds, and plenty of other NAT type related applications. For a game without a dedicated server to do that, having network ports open is necessary. Thus, Port Forwarding is pretty much necessary. NAT has nothing at all to do with ping, because it's not about the speed of your connection. If you knew the first thing about networking, you would not have said any of that.

That said, port forwarding may not be the full solution either. While it's definitely necessary to opening up your NAT type, there are other issues that can arise that can still cause your NAT type to be strict, even though your ports are open. If this is the case you can try to call your ISP to confirm that they aren't manually blocking these ports themselves (I'll save you the trouble by telling you right now that they probably aren't), but if that doesn't yield results, its a problem on Ubisoft's end.

And yes, the problem does stem from For Honor being a peer to peer game. This problem is/was common in Rainbow Six as well.

If you're in the same boat as me, having a strict NAT type, while having all the proper ports open, all we can hope is for Ubisoft to rectify the issue with the game, or to get dedicated servers, because other than forwarding ports and turning on your UPnP, there are no other solutions available online for a strict NAT type.
