Playing offline

Can you level up your character in single player and vs bots? Or are online characters treated seperatly?

campagin and online is seperate. you can unlock campagin feats but they wont affect mutiplayer in anyway. the only thing in campagin that could affect multiplayer would be the smashables that contain emblems steel and crates

You can level up your character playing vs. AI matches, but they aren't offline, so to speak. It's an 'always online' game.

To level up a class by playing against AI, you still need at least one other player to start a brawl, right? Duels against AI don't give any exp.

Duels not giving xp/loot is a bug (one Ubi hasn't addressed since the beta)
You can play all game modes solo without the need of another human player.
I use a controller so I can't tell you the keys but XB1 Controller X (settings) XB1 controller A (turns matchmaking off) now you can play 100% solo with AI vs AI.

This does affect income so whereas you get 32 steel per Dominion game with Humans vs AI. If it's Solo vs AI it comes down to 20 steel per game, likewise the XP payout is reduced.

You cannot start the game in offline mode, so if you are talking about playing the game without internet it doesnt work.

You have to have a connection to play the game.

And yes you can play vs bots and prefer to not be matched with players in said gamemode so you instantly get a team of bots with you in it against other bots.
