For the record, no, it doesn't favor any one player, as the p2p system in For Honor is a multi-host system. Essentially, if you're the one getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by it, it's because all the other players are agreeing that in real time, you're getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥. It doesn't go off one person, it's everyone in the match's current game state agreeing in the majority on what's happening. Only thing to say is get better internet so your game state matches what everyone else is seeing.
Add on top of that the cost of running dedicated servers, it's a lot more expensive than running a P2P multiplayer service, games like Dota 2, CS:GO and Rocket League can do it because they are very very popular and are profitable, For Honor fits into the niche market of fighting games, it has broader appeal but as player numbers quickly fall (as they do in this genre) hosting dedicated servers won't make financial sense, leading to the game shutting down much sooner.
So for all the disadvantages, P2P at least ensures the game runs for a longer time, could it run better? ABSOLUTELY, i won't argue there, and i hope it's something they can achieve with patches, but i won't ask them to spend all that money and maintenance running dedicated servers.
Yup, because a 60$ AAA game with 40$ season pass AND micro-transactions doesn't move enough money, right ? Why is there any MTs if they have no servers to maintain though ?
P2P is good for a 1v1 fighting mode, anything above is simply screwed with P2P.
Does it really ? I already said that somewhere, but it feels wrong to call it a fighting game even if it's not entirely incorrect. It's a very noob-friendly gameplay with generous timings most of the time (even parrying doesn't require much reflex).
What should they spend it on then ? The next heroes/maps are already funded anyway, and they fail to support the game efficiently (even though this update is a step forward).
The money arguement is really a bad one.
Mass Effect: Andromeda's multiplayer is more stable than For Honor's and it's also based on whoever is hosting.
Most moves are slow enough that lag isn't a huge issue, especially when considering they use ping based matchmaking. Connection stability is another thing. Yes, matches seem to crash a lot. How much of that is due to people leaving all the damn time?
That's true, even if Dedicated servers could solve a lot of issues about game's enjoyement and stability, the balance and responsiveness are the things they should focus on right now.
