As far as i recall- and i could be wrong, i havent played ZT in forever- it has a grid-based build system and very strict controls. WP2 has a pretty free build space and you're able to control a lot of things. Plus, this one isn't as laggy (for me at least.)
For me personally, I actually have both. Granted, I'm looking to find and expand on ZT2 due to losing the expansion discs, but ZT2 always make you have a zoo entrance, yet usually give you a much more focus on the animals. With WLP 2, you can make anything else if you don't want to make a zoo, but if you decide to have people, you have to make sure they're completely happy too in order to be successful.
It also depends if you want a challenge or not, and what reward you want for it. WLP 2 has hard challenges the further in you get into the missions, but has little to no rewards. ZT2 gives you rewards for challenges and campaigns, but some of them may seem too easy at times.
I just bought WLP2 and so I'm still struggling with many of the game mechanics. I like the free form zoos and the antics of the guests and animals. And the petting zoo just makes me happy.
I would be happier if there were mods for the game and it really needs a good faq/walkthru, because I found it didn't explain things as in-depth as I would have liked. The time limits in the campaign missions are not my friends and I really hate the ground leveling tools and trying to dig marine tanks. But I suspect I just need practice to make it all easier.
