Questions about singleplayer.
How is the game in singleplayer mode ? does it have story and ai crew that you can hire? also does your singleplayer character could carry over to a friend's server?

Perfectly playable solo (from my perspective). You can continue the game you have started solo and coop, and change this forth and back. The controls to run the ship are well done to do it solo and there is no need to gather a NPC crew - it is already with the boat by default. Your leveled character can perfectly join any friend's game.

Don't know about carryover but single player is 'fine' so far for me although it can be pretty tedious.

Some fights are significantly harder solo (in my opinion) than they would be with more people. Gathering resources can also be extremely time consuming although I'm not sure that would differ depending on player count.

Naval combat was easy to control and I didn't have any problems with that. I'm unsure how much better or worse it is in comparison to multiplayer.

Thanks for the heads up about the difficulty, I be sure to remeber that.

Fwiw, I turned down enemy damage to 20% (from 100% on normal) because I just wasn't having any fun. I would obviously try it on normal (or whatever difficulty you want) and see how it feels.

Ah okay i be sure to do the same as I wouldn't like Spongy enemies. thanks again
I'm saiiing a Blackbeard's variant version of the Brig now in my single player.. i got a tailor and an alchemist with that doctor on my base .. if i dont wanna farm resources , i just spend 100 silver to have an NPC market stall that I can build in front or on the property area of my base and the faction i buy resources from delivers the goods to me in about an hour so i just keep sailing or gathering other things I didn't get a merchant contract for. The game's pretty early access but already ii see my NPCs assigned to my crafting stations moviing around walking to a campfire or stove.. chilling on chairs i made by a fireplace.. miimicking crafting motions at stations.. etc. gives a nice "alive" feeling to my world y'know ? lots of great potential in this game !
