For Windows 10 users:

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FATE The Cursed King, find default_config.bat, open it using Notepad, and change the fullscreen node from 1 to 0. The game will now launch for you all, including myself.

or/and...

FATE WINDOWS 10 / ATI GRAPHIC CARDS FIX:

1 - Download ReShade with the "Framework (Running on ReShade)" option here: http://reshade.me/

2 - Extract it somewhere and run "Framework Mediator.exe"

3 - From the "ReShade Setup" box, click the Add button and choose the "fate.exe" located in your "Steam/SteamApps/common/FATE" game folder.

4 - Make your "Direct3D 8" is selected and in red, and click the "Apply" button at the bottom right part of the window.

5 - Close the ReShade Framework app, and try to launch the game.

Take the d3d8.dll file that ReShade makes, copy it, and put it within the files of the other FATE games, and they will all launch in fullscreen, no issues. The only thing that I cannot seem to do is get the text from ReShade to disappear from the top left, but that doesn't ruin the fun for me. :)

I can verify that using reshade.me worked in getting the game running in windows 10. Changing the value for the fulscreen mode however did nothing. It might be because I have two displays. Either way thank you for your help, I appreciate it! :damien:

You are a Prince among men. Thank you kind sir. I expected Fate never to run again on Windows 10 - let's hope there's a patch soon to fix this, although I won't hold my breath.

Thanks Equinox about the ReShade tip - that works perfectly! I imagine that will also help with other old games that have troubles in Windows 10.

Every time I try to run the Mediator an alert will say: The ReShade Framework Mediator is missing required files or the permission to access them. Please start the ReShade Framework Mediator as Administrator or reinstall the ReShade Framework!

Can someone please explain this. I have reinstalled ReShade Framework 6 times.

If you've already tried launching ReShade as an Administrator, take the directory of all of the files out of Program Files or Program Files (x86), move them somewhere else (if you have them in there already), then try to use it again. If it's in either of those, taking it out should remove the messages of being denied. If not, I have no idea...

The d3d8.dll that reshade generated didn't work for me (still crashed). The one included in this other steam fix (for GTA3) did.

http://enbdev.com/enbseries_gta3_v0075.zip << just copy d3d8.dll to the fate folder.

So the fullscreen method worked, but I was dumb enough to try clicking it in game, which crashed it. I switched it back to 0 via the default confige file, but it still tried to launch in full screen for some reason. I then tried verifying the game files to reset them and completely reinstalling, then changing the value to 0, but it still tries to launch in full screen. Any ideas as to why?
