Why does fishing pull up nothing 70% of the time.

I see the exclamation mark, and hook...well...nothing. Am I missing something here? Or is it just random to actually pull something up?

if you open both inventory of you and you pet it can cancel the animation if him staring at nothing

It may be confirmation bias, but it feels to me like the timing of clicking the hook after you get a bite has an effect on whether you catch anything. I could swear I'm more likely to get something if I practice clicking the exact split second after the bite animation. If I'm slow to click, I seem to get nothing much more often.

This is the issue. Timing matters. You have to click ASAP after getting the notice to set your hook, otherwise you lose the fish and will pull up an empty line if you set your hook too late or you have to wait until another fish is on the line.

You will ALWAYS pull a fish as long as you set your hook fast enough. But if you miss your chance, you'll get nothing. So no, it's not random, it's entirely skill based. You just have to be attentive and fast enough to hook the fish.

I know this is an old post, but the other thing you can do when fishing is click and hold the button down. As soon as the rod dips click and hold and you will get fish at least 8 out of 10 goes.

My first few reels, I clicked asap and got nothing. After that I let the "!" sit there for a few seconds and kept fishing things up. I didn't fish for long so it could just be rng

Once you hear the hook going into the water push the h key wait for the exclamation mark to appear. click the H key, then click the button to reel in
