Hidden in Plain Sight

Hidden in Plain Sight

Game is not starting
I just bought the game and it is not working. At the beginning - after running the game it immediately disappeared from taskbar. After some tries with compatibility mode - the best I achieved was blank, light grey screen for 2 or 3 seconds, then exit. No error, nothing.
I have windows 8.1, Samsung Laptop, 64bit, intel i5.

Hmmm... It might be an issue with your graphic card? Have you tried it on another computer?

What screen resolution are you running?

You might also try adding -window as a command line parameter and see if that does anything.

Thanks for the answer :)
Unfortunately nothing works. I tried restarting, tried changing resolution (currently I have 1600x900), tried running as Administrator, in different compatibilty mode, also tried with "-window" and "window", tried reinstalling the game.
I didn't tried to run on stationary PC, but I suppose that it will work there. Unfortunately I have laptop connected to TV with xbox controllers, so it is perfect from the couch :)
I will check for newer drivers for graphic cards. Also I can try to run it on other computer and stream to laptop, but it is all just workaround unfortunately...
Are there any log file, why it crashes?It stays few seconds in the memory (I can see it on process list) and then it just disappears.

I'll see what I can do this weekend. Sorry for this. My initial guess is that your graphics card doesn't support XNA games...

Try doing this:

Go the the folder where Steam installed the game. For me, it's:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\HiddenInPlainSight

Create a text file called hips.txt, and paste this into it:

hiddeninplainsight 2>out.txt

Rename the file from hips.txt to hips.bat

Run the batch file (double click it). See if this creates a file called "out.txt" when the game crashes. Post the contents of that file here, if so.

Thanks for the answer. You might be right about XNA games.

I tried your solution for output, and this is the result:

Wyjątek nieobsłużony: System.InvalidOperationException: Song playback failed. Please verify that the song is not DRM protected. DRM protected songs are not supported for creator games. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: An unexpected error has occurred.
--- Koniec śladu stosu wyjątków wewnętrznych ---

w PlainSight.SplashScreens.LoadContent()
w PlainSight.ScreenManager.LoadContent()
w Microsoft.Xna.Framework.DrawableGameComponent.Initialize()
w PlainSight.ScreenManager.Initialize()
w Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.Initialize()
w Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game.RunGame(Boolean useBlockingRun)
w PlainSight.Program.Main(String[] args)

My translation of polish words :)

I searched Google for that error message. I think you need to have Windows Media Player installed.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5640469/mediaplayer-play-method-throwing-drm-exception

Can you try installing Windows Media Player (did you uninstall it?) and try again?

Thanks :)
I don't remember uninstalling it but who knows :)
At first I found out that there is no WMP for Windows 8.1
After a quick search i found that: Control Panel -> Programs and functions -> Media -> Windows Media Player box was unchecked. I checked it, quick auto-update and the game works!
Great, thanks!

Woo hoo! Thanks for posting your results. Hopefully this helps someone in the future, too.

Glad it works!

:)
Thanks! I was having the exact same issue
I had the same issue to. Maybe the game could alert you if media player is not installed. "mount your friends" does something similar.

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\HiddenInPlainSight

Create a text file called hips.txt, and paste this into it:

hiddeninplainsight 2>out.txt"
