how does this game relate to shadows

do i need to play it to understand shadows? i played valhalla which was mid at best but shadows looks dope af.

are there gonna be characters from this game in shadows?

it doesn't. It relates to Valhalla. it's the origin of Basim the antagonist of Valhalla.

You dont need to play any AC to "understand" other ACs (well, Ezio trilogy is better to be played together). Each AC has its own "story". To understand "present day/animus" story you better play all games or watch some video explaining it. However i havent found any Animus in this one, its kinda like big Valhalla DLC explaining Basims origin/story before Valhalla.

This is post Valhalla, so I think you're kinda 'locked in' to the Animus for the whole thing. Mostly because it'd be kinda pointless to make an entirely new small area for what happens outside of it, not to mention spoiling Valhalla's ending.

Though it does make me wonder if we'll get a new present day protagonist for Shadows...
