By the way, you aren't the only guy who likes otome games. I've seen a few other people who enjoy them as well, though they are definitely a minority. It's probably cause it's just a bit awkward playing a game where you date guys when you are a guy (unless you're a ♥♥♥♥).
If you have a Vita I'd def recomend Norn9, it has 3 main characters who each have a choice of 3 guys, who have 2 endings each. Its fully voiced too and has great art. I enjoyed it a lot.
Is OzMafia good?
The only other otome that got my attention until the end was Area-X. Haven't tried Amnesia though.
Having said that, I think OzMafia though is very romance heavy. So if you don't like romance, I don't think you would like it. It seriously fits the bill for me as I have been playing so many messed up/serious otome games that I really wanted a refreshing change of just having mostly fluff romantic stories. >_<; There are some friendship routes though, but I don't know what they're like. I've only played the first 3 main characters.
If you are looking for an otome game that has less romance and more story, I would recommend Code:Realize ~ Guardian of Rebirth which is on PS Vita. Their romance parts start near the end of the story like Chapter 9 to 13 - yes, only that much. ^^; Only thing is I feel it is quite a skip-a-thon after you do your initial playthrough.
I hope you're able to purchase the game soon.
Cheers!
I think you'll enjoy Ozmafia. The heroine can be pretty blunt, and it's hilarious! She also goes for what she wants unlike some other clueless heroine that I have encountered.
As for Amnesia, it's a lot darker than Ozmafia in my opinion. It is still a good game, though. Perhaps you would enjoy "Nameless ~the one thing you must recall~" as well. It has a good plot with an interesting heroine and a good cast of supporting characters.
Each otome games have their own pros and cons. It's hard to pick a favorite depending on your preferences. If anything, the ones I enjoy the most tend to be:
- Comedic
- Non-stat building
- Story is built upon the characters' roles (like characters having good/bad chemistry or history with each other)
- Each character branch is different enough that it doesn't feel repetitive while replaying
- Whatever else I forget about (like immersion, plot twist, lovable characters, nice artwork/music, etc).
Code Realize, Nameless, Norn9, and OzMafia are worthwhile getting into, especially Code Realize for the story (unless you're looking for romance, I'd suggest the latter 3). Whatever other otomes I've played, can be a bit forgettable after a while.
And omg I'm obsessed with Diabolik Lovers! The music is so good, and the story wonderfully dark. I had seen comments here and there about the series so I pretty much knew what I was getting into, but I had no idea how much I was going to love it. By the end of episode 2 I was hooked! I've seen the anime but haven't played any of the games yet. I don't know Japanese but I'm more than tempted to just order the games anyway and find a translation online.
I think the most odd ending was with Kanato you get incinerated and he stuffs your ashes in a plushie Kanato stop being weird!
Like the first game I love the ending credits but much much more in More Blood

Imo, Amnesia:Memories handles that topic and its main character way better, and gave her far more agency. Sure the MC is still naive af (which is a typical otome/anime disease for female chars, alas) but unlike Fuka "I can only fold laundry, tehehe" (argh) she actually is capable of learning and doing stuff on her own without other characters having to explain to her the simplest things in the world around her (what is a funeral? We just don't know) Nor does Amnesia's MC parrot every second sentence she'd heard. It's infuriating, and as said, insulting. Were it not for the other characters in Ozmafia I would have stopped playing long ago (non-steam version here)
Personal preference maybe, but between these two games Amnesia:Memories is the far superior one. Aside the reasons mentioned above, the story is really good and has a bit of everything...mystery, suspense, supernatural elements and darker/mature themes. It's a good mixture and the resolution of the whole story is pretty emotional and a big aha moment. Don't get me wrong I like Ozmafia too, though Amnesia isn't as purely romanced focused as this game is. Plus in Amnesia I want to choke the female MC 95% less throughout the game.
TL;DR: I'd start with Amnesia before Ozmafia, and maybe take a look at "1931: Scheherazade at the Library of Pergamum" too, which isn't on the same level drawing/presentation-wise like Amnesia and Ozmafia, but has a witty, capable and simply kickass female main character and excellent writing in general.
I'm only a couple of hours in to Ozmafia and while I agree that the heroine can be incredibly stupid at times, I rather enjoy her optimistic outlook on everything so far. Well, at least she's no self-insert character, which is the worst kind of protagonist for me. The scenes are also refreshingly short, which I enjoy in this kind of fairytale/slice of life setting.
Well, in any case, I'm female but I've quite enjoyed lots of eroge aimed at men too. There are the two Kara no Shoujo games and Catagra by Innocent Grey which I can highly recommend to anyone enjoying a good murder mystery (and who can stomach the rather gory crime scene CGs). Littlewitch Romanesque is super adorable fluffy fantasy, with tons of wonderful characters and nice gameplay (Steam version is all ages, Mangagamer version is 18+). Soul Link had quite the good sci-fi story which really had me on the edge at times, but sadly it's no longer distributed by mangagamer. Crescendo was a beautifully melancholic eroge with a very nice art style I immensely enjoyed too. There are some rather good "harem games" with well thought out stories - and the otome genre has quite a few bad apples to offer too. ;)
Anyway, so far I'm enjoying Ozmafia and the only thing that bothers me is the low resolution, if it was in 1080p it could easily rival Amnesia's beauty.
