OZMAFIA!!

OZMAFIA!!

So am I the only guy who plays Otome games?
There is something about Otome games I find more interesting than Harem games. They actually have a story and interesting characters. Ive loved Hakuoki for its Japanese historical theme. I wonder how their decedents feel of their great grandpa being seen as a hot Anime character (or better yet, finding out the character they like in a game is their grandpa!). I have Hakuoki for psp but never finished.

I've loved the hell out of Diabolik Lovers for its gothic Lolita and vampire themes. Don't get me started on the music! At first I thought the character designs were weird then I heard the ending song of the first game and felt like I was getting sucked in (no pun intended I swear!). Just when I thought I had enough Reject uploads samples of new Diabolik Lovers songs and I get sucked back in. I owned the psp version of Diabolik Lovers then gave it to a friend because I got the Vita version. I plan on buying another copy of the psp version and buy the rest of the games. I own the official Anime Blu Ray by Sentai Film works. I feel bad that non-japanese speakers can't play the Diabolik Lovers games. Let's do something about it!

Favorite DL songs
Parhelion Logic (DL PSP End theme)
Eclipse (DL More Blood End theme)
Gin no Bara (Ayato ver.)
Addicted (2) Phantom (Ayato Song)
Zero (Subaru song)
Farewell Song (Shu song)
Wana - If You're A Diablo (Mukami song)

I did watch Uta no Prince. I keep forgetting where I am in the Anime so I'm gonna have to restart it. I have started Dancing With Devils, the breaking to song every 2 minutes was too weird for me.

I feel like I'm alone cuz I'm the only guy here. I'm gonna have to save up for OZMAFIA! And I'm super excited because it's the same illustrator as Diabolik Lovers. At the end of the day though we're all otome fans! Nice to meet ya !

I honestly don't mind otome games. While I definitely prefer eroge geared towards heterosexual men such as I, I am willing to play one if it has a good enough story to back it up. It's just like how some girls play visual novels geared towards men. The only otome game i've played to date was Amnesia, which I felt was ok. It's probably more or less because of my dislike for slice of life, but I never really got around to completing it. Still, I would be willing to try this out if it has an intriguing plotline, and doesn't just focus on the men.

By the way, you aren't the only guy who likes otome games. I've seen a few other people who enjoy them as well, though they are definitely a minority. It's probably cause it's just a bit awkward playing a game where you date guys when you are a guy (unless you're a ♥♥♥♥).

I have a friend who plays some Otome, he prefers the slice of life ones best I think? He also always buys the Vita versions when they come out if he can, if only to provide support for the company/genre, which I think is great since its one of my favorite type of games and the more sales the games get the more likely we'll get other titles.

If you have a Vita I'd def recomend Norn9, it has 3 main characters who each have a choice of 3 guys, who have 2 endings each. Its fully voiced too and has great art. I enjoyed it a lot.

Since this thread is part relevant to me (guy who plays otome), I'll ask here.

Is OzMafia good?

The only other otome that got my attention until the end was Area-X. Haven't tried Amnesia though.

I'm a guy, and I voluntarily chose to work on this game as an editor because I loved its look and feel. You're definitely not alone!

I don't think youre the only guy that plays otome games (straight or gay). There's some people that just don't feel comfortable telling everyone they're a romantic because of stereotype/fear of being ridiculed.

Having said that, I think OzMafia though is very romance heavy. So if you don't like romance, I don't think you would like it. It seriously fits the bill for me as I have been playing so many messed up/serious otome games that I really wanted a refreshing change of just having mostly fluff romantic stories. >_<; There are some friendship routes though, but I don't know what they're like. I've only played the first 3 main characters.

If you are looking for an otome game that has less romance and more story, I would recommend Code:Realize ~ Guardian of Rebirth which is on PS Vita. Their romance parts start near the end of the story like Chapter 9 to 13 - yes, only that much. ^^; Only thing is I feel it is quite a skip-a-thon after you do your initial playthrough.

My brother plays some otome games, and he is perfectly straight. He agrees with you on the point that there is more depth in story; he wishes more harems would be like this as well.

I hope you're able to purchase the game soon.

Cheers!

I think you'll enjoy Ozmafia. The heroine can be pretty blunt, and it's hilarious! She also goes for what she wants unlike some other clueless heroine that I have encountered.

As for Amnesia, it's a lot darker than Ozmafia in my opinion. It is still a good game, though. Perhaps you would enjoy "Nameless ~the one thing you must recall~" as well. It has a good plot with an interesting heroine and a good cast of supporting characters.

It's not that odd. I mean, back when Harvest Moon had only male player option, I find myself (female player) picking up the farming game simply because of the gameplay and characters/storyline. The female candidates had their own quirks/charms in their own right, and they all fit into the town/farming world. Fruits of Grisaia (for male players) was also interesting in a way since it's almost like watching an anime of sorts.

Each otome games have their own pros and cons. It's hard to pick a favorite depending on your preferences. If anything, the ones I enjoy the most tend to be:
- Comedic
- Non-stat building
- Story is built upon the characters' roles (like characters having good/bad chemistry or history with each other)
- Each character branch is different enough that it doesn't feel repetitive while replaying
- Whatever else I forget about (like immersion, plot twist, lovable characters, nice artwork/music, etc).

Code Realize, Nameless, Norn9, and OzMafia are worthwhile getting into, especially Code Realize for the story (unless you're looking for romance, I'd suggest the latter 3). Whatever other otomes I've played, can be a bit forgettable after a while.

I don't think it's weird or different at all that you play them! I know of a youtuber who plays them as well, even has a video talking about why he plays them. They're just good games, in my opinion. I think they offer something to like for a lot of people and it's all in perspective. I recommend Code Realize as well. I'm currently playing through it and it's pretty good. I know there's a fan disc coming out for Japan as well, not sure for an english release though.

And omg I'm obsessed with Diabolik Lovers! The music is so good, and the story wonderfully dark. I had seen comments here and there about the series so I pretty much knew what I was getting into, but I had no idea how much I was going to love it. By the end of episode 2 I was hooked! I've seen the anime but haven't played any of the games yet. I don't know Japanese but I'm more than tempted to just order the games anyway and find a translation online.

I recently got the Sequel Diabolik Lovers More Blood for the Vita. I'm all over Ruki. His route is my favorite. I'm in love with his neutral ending. it's like a romantic suicide between the both of you after he kills Ayato

It sounds lik an amazing game!! Who knew Ruki had it in him!?!? I peeked at the spoiler because I was too darn curious! When Ruki was first introduced in the anime I was really interested, plus his behavior towards Yui, for the most part was decent.

I think for the most part they've kept the Mukami brothers close to their game selves in the anime compared to the Sakamaki brothers. Ruki was the more interesting out of the 4 from the anime and his route ended up being my favorite for the whole game.

I think the most odd ending was with Kanato you get incinerated and he stuffs your ashes in a plushie Kanato stop being weird!

Like the first game I love the ending credits but much much more in More Blood

That Kanato! He's the least appealing to me lol. I think it started with the "bride room" in season 1. I kind of figured he would be a bit messed up in his route!

YMMV, but I find that Fuka, aka the main character in Ozmafia is really REALLY dumb as a sack of rocks, almost to an insulting level for me as female player. The writers of this game did the huuuuge mistake of conflating Amnesia with forgetting every single thing she'd had ever learnt, instead of only, you know, her memories, what Amnesia is ACTUALLY about?

Imo, Amnesia:Memories handles that topic and its main character way better, and gave her far more agency. Sure the MC is still naive af (which is a typical otome/anime disease for female chars, alas) but unlike Fuka "I can only fold laundry, tehehe" (argh) she actually is capable of learning and doing stuff on her own without other characters having to explain to her the simplest things in the world around her (what is a funeral? We just don't know) Nor does Amnesia's MC parrot every second sentence she'd heard. It's infuriating, and as said, insulting. Were it not for the other characters in Ozmafia I would have stopped playing long ago (non-steam version here)

Personal preference maybe, but between these two games Amnesia:Memories is the far superior one. Aside the reasons mentioned above, the story is really good and has a bit of everything...mystery, suspense, supernatural elements and darker/mature themes. It's a good mixture and the resolution of the whole story is pretty emotional and a big aha moment. Don't get me wrong I like Ozmafia too, though Amnesia isn't as purely romanced focused as this game is. Plus in Amnesia I want to choke the female MC 95% less throughout the game.

TL;DR: I'd start with Amnesia before Ozmafia, and maybe take a look at "1931: Scheherazade at the Library of Pergamum" too, which isn't on the same level drawing/presentation-wise like Amnesia and Ozmafia, but has a witty, capable and simply kickass female main character and excellent writing in general. :happy_creep:

Amnesia, while having a really interesting concept with it's parallel worlds and trying to hide your amnesia from everyone, felt a bit underwhelming to me in the end. It looks and sounds absolutely adorable, but the absolutely personality-less heroine paired with the super cute, yet slightly annoying spirit, that does all the talking for you plus the weirdness of the true ending was a bit of an overkill for me. Most of the scenes dragged on a bit too long for my taste too. But it's still a good game and often on sale for a very low price, so I'd definitely recommend keeping and eye on it and getting it when it's on sale again.

I'm only a couple of hours in to Ozmafia and while I agree that the heroine can be incredibly stupid at times, I rather enjoy her optimistic outlook on everything so far. Well, at least she's no self-insert character, which is the worst kind of protagonist for me. The scenes are also refreshingly short, which I enjoy in this kind of fairytale/slice of life setting.

Well, in any case, I'm female but I've quite enjoyed lots of eroge aimed at men too. There are the two Kara no Shoujo games and Catagra by Innocent Grey which I can highly recommend to anyone enjoying a good murder mystery (and who can stomach the rather gory crime scene CGs). Littlewitch Romanesque is super adorable fluffy fantasy, with tons of wonderful characters and nice gameplay (Steam version is all ages, Mangagamer version is 18+). Soul Link had quite the good sci-fi story which really had me on the edge at times, but sadly it's no longer distributed by mangagamer. Crescendo was a beautifully melancholic eroge with a very nice art style I immensely enjoyed too. There are some rather good "harem games" with well thought out stories - and the otome genre has quite a few bad apples to offer too. ;)

Anyway, so far I'm enjoying Ozmafia and the only thing that bothers me is the low resolution, if it was in 1080p it could easily rival Amnesia's beauty.
