The Beginner's Guide

The Beginning of "The Tower"
Doesn't the beginning of the level look familiar? Wooden, reflective floors with white, gray, orange walls and lights hanging from the ceiling. This place looks exactly like the end of the level where Coda speaks directly to Davey, but why?

You could say it's just a theme to the level, but I think it was at this point during the creation of the game where Coda realized what this level really needed to be. Initially, it seems the level was going to be just his direct message, nothing else. But at some point in making this first area he realized what he needed to create, his final test for Davey.

That's why the rest of the level exists. Each puzzle is explicitly telling the player to stay out, and the only way to get around these problems would be to manipulate the game. Coda knows that Davey does exactly this and so he gives him one final test of trust to see if Davey could play his games for what they were, what Coda wanted them to be.

What do you think? Was this just thematic placement? Am I reaching too far?

You might be right. I was wondering why Coda would keep creating the game even though he creates situations where you wouldn't be able to possibly continue unless you cheated.
