Pet's health wont go past 50%/Can't use healing items on pet

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but visually my pet's health bar won't go past the 50% mark, and I am entirely unable to use healing items on it. I have to group heal in order to get my pet back to "full". I have never encountered this in the original FATE game, so I was wondering if anyone else had this issue.

If you look at your own health bar in the top left when you open your inventory, you'll see that the other 50% of the circle is your mana bar. Your pet's mana bar is empty because it can't use spells unless you transform it into a monster that can.
