game breaker bug : cannot use keyboard and mouse on "choose your fate" screen on steam deck

Hey Folks,
I recently had a problem with my hands that needed medical attention and can no longer hold any kind of game pad for very long. My home system was mid upgrade when this occurred so its offline. I am using a steam deck, hooked up like a pc to a dock with keyboard and track ball.
When I launch the game, the "Choose your fate screen" does not respond properly to mouse input and seems to ignore keyboard totally. I cannot easily use the steam deck buttons to do much so I had to alt-f4 out of the game.
I went looking fora configuration file and could not find any. I disabled steam input but the choose your fate screen still is game pad only. I do not really want to refund the game over accessibility issue like this :>
