Achievements broken because of the Steam overlay

I have a problem getting the achievements, it worked once some time ago for the Marie ending, but not anymore. I've found out that the Steam overlay doesn't pop up when the game is launched, and the game in itself relaunches automatically when arriving on the main menu, don't know why.
I've tried checking the cache, and I get that 81 weren't correctly set up, but even after the download of those files I've got the same problem.

I'm on Windows 7 x64, don't know if it's useful.

What do you mean by "relaunches automatically" ?
I just tried here and works fine. Maybe try to uninstall the game completely and delete even the folder manually (savegames are preserved).

Tried reinstalling, even on a different drive and while deleting the game folder, same problem.

What I mean is that the main window of the game pops up, you have the logo that shows up fine, and as soon as the menu loads, like 1 second later, the game closes up, BUT is booted again immediately, and then the game loads fine, except for the Steam Overlay.
What I've noted too is that when I launch the game at first, Steam kind of freezes for a while, and I don't get that on any other game.
Oh and afterwards the Steam Overlay has bugged for all games, at least for the current Steam session. I have to restart Steam to get it again.
I tried to look for a log file to get more info, but the only one I found was for test rendering :) If there's any way I can help, I'll try to, that's the first time I see anything like this.

Is really strange, I have windows 7 64-bit too and works fine. I think must be some driver or something, I tested it on Win8 even and no problems there too :(

i have right the same problem with windows 7, its exactly how Naushi explained it

Edit: after restarting steam two times it worked for me now.

Steam is doing some big changes right now (new icons and buttons, so something is boiling... :P) so might be just that.

I tried to update my graphic drivers too, still have the same problem... Guess I'll wait for my new laptop to arrive and I'll try to see if it persists on this one. But cheers for the game, I had a great time playing it !

Works here now, it were some defunct files that caused the trouble. I just checked them and now it works perfectly.

The visual novels do remind me of endless quest books from TSR back in the eighties.

got the same problem here, updated my graphics drivers and still can't get achievements to work. what did you do to check those defunct files?

In the library call the context menu of the Heileen game. There go to the last point of the context menu - then to the register Files, and check files for errors...

Thanks! Did that now, still doesn't seem to work. Also not for Heileen 2 and Heileen 3.
