Very simple but satisfying game. Went back to this after Momodora: Moonlit Farewell, and I can definitely see how progression went. Nice to have a quick distraction for the small amount of money, and you can even get the achievements quickly.

One note for Steam Deck / ROG Ally users: It's not as easy to quit the game normally because it relies on the escape key to quit.

Apparently I played this one way back in 2017 - had no memory of it so I gave it another run through. Got 100% Steam achievements and both endings.

Momodora III returns to the linear nature of the first game of the series. There is the ability to backtrack, but it's not necessary like in Momodora II, and there aren't new abilities that open up new areas within previous sections.

This game really shines in the boss fights, each area has a boss, and they were all very satisfying to defeat The common enemies aren't anything special, but I did really enjoy the bosses.

The artwork in this game is also a step up from the first two, everything is very vibrant and pleasant to look at.

I did miss having an in-game map, but since the zones are set up linearly it wasn't a big issue. One thing I did not like is the intense screen shake whenever you deal damage. This isn't a big deal for most enemies, but on bosses it became really excessive and even made it harder to see what the boss' next attack was going to be.

You can grab Momodora III for two bucks, and it's definitely worth it at that price. I think I slightly preferred Momodora 2, but this game stands on its own very nicely.

While nowhere near as big as it's more well-known sequels, this is an enjoyable, short platformer that is deceptively easy. If you want a game that can be beaten in an hour, this is a good option.

Momodora III continues the action/platformer series of Indie developer Guilherme Martins aka rdein and Bombservice, this time a retail release on Steam, after a couple of short/sweet freeware releases.


There’s 2 playable characters, Momo and (Isa)Dora, though I can’t say I noticed any difference between the way they played.

The mechanics are basic, with jump and (short range melee) attack buttons, and you can hold attack for a couple of seconds to charge a projectile attack. It controls as the previous games did, as I recall, with no floatiness to the jumps. It feels like you’ve got a lot of weight and the pixel perfect collision detection doesn’t mess about.

As a result, boss fights especially are fast and furious. You can’t jump particularly high. Don’t have much attack range. And they move so fast. So you find yourself bashing away at the attack button, chipping away at as much of their life bar as you can for the duration of your i-frames when hit. They don’t have any great elaborate attack patterns to learn, they just rush you, so will probably win a few times before you get familiar/lucky and come out on top.

Checkpoints (bells) are very frequent and lives/retries unlimited, so you will get through eventually. This also helps reduce the frustration of the many instant death pits/spikes which would otherwise feel very harsh.


The second game dabbled with more of a Metroidvania structure but this one has linear stage progression (like the first did). You can warp back to previous ones but I didn’t find a reason to (but there must be some, or else why include it).

There’s some useful, almost Rogue-like, items to buy/find and equip. 3 item slots let you have multiple equipped/stacked at any one time.

Especially useful was the Summon Stone item I found in stage 2, which had an invincible ghostly double following me around, attacking enemies and taking hits on my behalf, which was a great help! (and maybe a bit game breaking)


Deck compatibility is currently listed as Unsupported, but it is perfectly payable.The framerate was very choppy in windowed mode, something you can’t afford in this game. Fullscreen ran at a good rate but had some junk at the sides of the screen, which was easy enough to ignore.


Momodora III is all very charming. The artstyle. The music. The cutesy enemies.

It’s no longer than the previous games really, still over in about an hour. Or larger in scope. I just assumed this one might have a bit more meat since I paid money for it! There is a new game+, multiple endings, secrets to uncover and higher difficulties …but still.

A short game but it's pretty cute.
The gameplay is very simple but efficient and the design and visuals are pretty darn cute. But the game is pretty short and the Normal difficulty is rather easy to the point of just tanking damage if you can mash the attack button.
Besides that, the game is pretty cool.
