Directx 11 Issue
I'm in the same problem of some others, i have an Nvidia Geforce 540m and it's of course a DX11 video card. The game doesn't recognize it, so i can't event start my game. How to fix that?
Best regards to anyone.

My specs are :
Asus Notebook K53SV
Processor : Intel Core I7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
Ram: 4 GB
Windows 7 64 Bit
nVidia Geforce GT540M 1 GB
Intel HD Graphics 3000

Hey there, is it possible that you also have an on-board GPU active that the game might detect as your default GPU instead?
Amon Oct 13, 2014 @ 8:10am
yes i have an intel hd onboard gpu, but if i disable it, i will not see anything. It exists a workaround to avoid that? - edit - i disabled the on-board gpu, restarted, but i still have the same problem. Kinda sad....

Seems that the problem is for laptops only, cause the Intel HD 3000 i have it's always the primary and the Nvidia triggers in only when needed. I'm on a laptop as well and i noticed that often. I hope in some fix, i really wanted to play this game as i'm italian! :)

I haven't bought Ryse yet, but does it use a launcher before the main game starts (ie, similar to Skyrim etc)?

If so, you need to go into the nVidia driver settings and configure the launcher to use the 540m.

nope there isn't a launcher. i think that could be a bad thing for laptop users , expecially ROG players. But never say never! For now i still have to thrill to play this game!! (i could play btw any other dx11 game like Warframe without problems...)

My previous gaming laptop (just moved to a desktop) had a light that indicated which card it was using at the time. If your laptop has this, does it change when you fire up Ryse?

As I had a few dramas with some games not detecting the card in time, I set the steam.exe to use the nVidia card when launched, and that solved some of the auto detect issues. Maybe try that?

Yes i tried that too. I found that too in the game log :
Renderer initialization
Logging video adapters:
- Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 (vendor = 0x8086, device = 0x0116)
- Adapter index: 0
- Dedicated video memory: 64 MB
- Feature level: DX10.1 (SM 4.x)
- Displays connected: yes
- Suitable rendering device: no
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M (vendor = 0x10de, device = 0x0df4)
- Adapter index: 1
- Dedicated video memory: 977 MB
- Feature level: DX11 (SM 5.0)
- Displays connected: no
- Suitable rendering device: no
Unsupported GPU configuration!
- Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 (vendor = 0x8086, device = 0x0116)
- Dedicated video memory: 64 MB
- Feature level: DX10.1 (SM 4.x)
Asking user if they wish to continue...
User chose to cancel.
System Shutdown

I think it's clear, the game tries to use the Intel one that triggers the nVidia.

Looks like it's hardcoded to look for adapter 0... that sucks. Hope they patch that soon.

I suppose you've already tried this but did you right click the Ryse exe and choose "run with nVidia graphics" ?

Try deactivate the onboard chip graphics. This works for me on serveral other games that do not check for a second graphics card

I pre-ordered this game and still can't play it. Really disappointed. Im having the direct X 11 issue too! I have an ATI Radeon 4800. Game won't even open...

Can you try the following please:

- open system.cfg with notepad (can be found in the Ryse directory)
- add r_overrideDXGIAdapter = 1
- save the changes and start the game

Radeon 4800 is not a DirectX11 compatible card, it supports DirectX 10.1. I think the 5xxx series was the first to support DX11
