Optimal Settings for Nvidia Users (Guide) [1080p @ 60FPS]
So I downloaded this game thinking my i5 4670k and GTX 780 3GB would be able to play it at 1080p and 60 fps without any issues harware-wise. When I first booted up the game it looked great, but there were several issues I was having that would come and go as I fixed one, then the other. For instance, I had a solid 60 fps in 1080p, but then it would go to 59, then 58, then all of a sudden to 30 for a significant period of gameplay (3-5 mins). When I fixed that issue and had a solid 60 fps, then I started getting really unpleasant screen tearing. I managed to find solutions to these problems for myself (60fps @ 1080p with no screen tearing) and figured I'd help anyone else out there that may be experiencing any of these issues. I do get some drops very rarely but it's extremely hard to notice unless I'm playing with FRAPS on as the lowest I drop to is 51 or 52 fps. If you have similar specs or even better, this should really help you out like it did for me. I've tried to dub it down for people who might not know what they're doing but it isn't really complicated.

First things first, boot up RYSE. Go to the settings and make sure under the Graphics tab your settings are:

Window Resolution: 1920x1080
Supersampling: OFF
Graphics Quality: CUSTOM (This will automatically change in the next step)
Texture Resolution: VERY HIGH (This can't be changed for me and is locked)
Fullscreen: OFF
Vsync: DISABLED
Lock FPS: DISABLED

Then go to the Advanced Graphics tab and make sure your settings are:

Shading Quality: HIGH
Object Detail: HIGH
Shadows Quality: HIGH
Particle Quality: HIGH
Animation Quality: HIGH
Motion Blur: ENABLED
Temporal Anti-Aliasing: ENABLED
Anisotropic Filtering: 16x

Once this is done make sure the settings are changed and exit the game. Open up Nvidia Control Panel and expand the "3D Settings" category, then select "Manage 3D settings". Click on the "Program Settings" tab and add or select your "RYSE.exe" file. Once selected, scroll down to "Vertical Sync" and select "Adaptive". Once selected, exit Nvidia Control panel and make sure you save your changes.

Next, open "Computer" and select the drive Steam is installed on. For me its "Computer/New Volume (D:)/Steam", but it might be different for you if it's installed on the same drive as your OS. I've installed mine on a separate HDD. Once you've found the Steam folder, go to "SteamApps/common/Ryse Son of Rome". You should see a file called "system". Open it with Notepad and at the very bottom type in "r_fullscreenwindow=1". Once completed, save your changes and close Notepad.

Now just open RYSE and you should experience what I am; RYSE in 1080p @ 60 fps with no tearing! :)

Hope this helps anyone who might not know how to fix any of these issues!

To be fair, this isn't your average game. This game pushes any rigs limits depending on what your settings are. If you want to use console settings on your PC, just change the resolution to 900p and lock the game at 30fps. That is how the Xbox One plays this game, so if your rig can't handle that, then it's time for an upgrade or maybe even switch to console like you mentioned. Personally my standards are too high for that now that I've been spoiled by my PC.

my system is capable thats my point, theres people on here with a gtx 780 some in gtx 780sli mode where do you draw the line if a 780 cant run it then what hope as anyone with a below tier got of running it and by the way nothing wrong with the xbox one version in fact it was that version that lured me into buying it seeing it as a working game as aposed to the pc i dont care about 30fps at least i can get that on the xbox one i cant even get that on a gtx 980 by the way,16gigs ram 17 extreme processor, need i go into anymore details regarding my system.time to switch to console hmmm you may have a point there hours wasted messing about with this i could have been playing the game

Sometimes games can be broken for some people which is generally due to some sort of fault within hardware or software. I have a GTX 780 and the game is silky at 1080p and 60 fps. The problem may be within your current system or it could be with something to do with the port of the game. You seem to not be able to get it to work so maybe it is time for a console switch if you don't care about upscaling and 30 fps.

if a game is dipping to 30 with vsync on simply set adaptive and max pre rendered frames to 1 in nvidia control panel all sorted :)

Thank you for this advice. I was struggling to get it work smoothly on low settings but with all of this I am now able to run it smoothly and glitch free on high.

I have the same problem but I'm an AMD user:

AMD FX 8350 4.3ghz CPU
XFX reference R9 290 with Gelid IcyVision Ver.2
Transcend 32GB 1333mhz RAM
Seagate 2TB SSHD
Windows 8.1 64bit

I sometimes get 60fps but I'm usually around 30-40. I've tried the suggest tips here but I don't have the option of adaptive v-sync. Turning down the settings makes no difference. I think the game is the issue because I can play MGS ground zeroes on medium to high settings with max textures and get a consistent 60fps with occasional dips to 50fps that last a few seconds. Any suggestions for AMD users?

Graphically, this game is much heavier than Ground Zeros. As an Nvidia user I don't have any suggestions for you, however if you can't play on max settings for MGS, you certainly won't be able to max out at 1080p and 60fps on this.

been a while since ive been on this topic,to be fair i havent picked the game back up for some time now i dont feel the urge to want to play it,it looks great but the gameplay just isnt there its more repetitive hack n slash than what golden axe was on the 16 bit sega.this game could have been so much better but i cant help thinking it should have stayed on console like that other crap xbox one game dead rising 3.

Everyone has their opinion. I had my fun with it for the 30 dollars I spent. I knew what I was getting when purchasing too. Hopefully they can make a new IP more focused on gameplay development while maintaining the same graphic fidelity as RYSE. That would be awesome.
