Ryse: Poor Performance
I'm having some issues with Ryse: Son of Rome's frame rate. I'm running an i7- 2600k @ 4.2Ghz and a GTX 980 on PCIe 2.0 x16 and 16GB of Ram. I'm attemping to run the game at 1080P and the framerate is all over the place. From what I've read on the net it would seem I should have enough power to run this card at a locked 60.

Any Suggestions or similar experiences?

Same thing, in the first 2 hours, I didn't notice a thing wrong. Then, out of nowhere, fps drop hit me like a ton of bricks. I guess it started in Nottingham woods, or the 4th level of the campaign. I tried the tips from using the NVIDIA control panel to force it into adapted v-sync and making it a borderless window, but nothing. I even tried opening up a lot of programs at once because people said it was a strange fix for it. Still nothing. I'm at my wits end with this game. A tip I have though is don't even touch "Frame Lock" or "V-Sync" unless you like the game running at 2 frames. A big problem though is the stuttering, which I can't even find a fix for. The two above I listed were supposed to be "stutter fixes" but I'm at a loss. Whatever, $20 down the drain.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear you're having similar problems to me. I appreciate the detailed response as to what steps you took to test it. May I ask what kind of hardware you're using?

even with a 980 and oced 4770k I cant stay at 60 fps especially with vsync on. the gpu usage drops when the framerates do so its just poorly optimized as there is nothing going on at times when this happens so it should not be cpu limited either.

This is unfortunate. I think this dimishes Crytek's reputation a little as a cutting edge graphics company.

Thats strange because my 970gtx sli can run it at 60fps constant with vsync on at 1440p on max. I did reduce the graphic texture from very high to high.

GTX 760
AMD A10-6800K
with 8 gigs of ram

I seemed to have found the problem out, at least from my end. I don't know if this is a fix or not, but I used task manager and left it open on my other screen to monitor how my computer is holding up, and I had to re-enter the forced adaptive v-sync in Nvidia control panel because it didn't want to work last time. For some reason, after I did those 2 things, my game stopped stuttering, and I chose to bump it up to high settings and noticed no significant stutter like last time. Also, from the previous fix to force borderless windowed mode, I brought my resolution from 1920x1080 to about 1660x900. Don't know if that helps or not, I'll test it later if resolution even helped me.

I dont believe you. again when it drops it has nothing to do with the gpu not being fast enough. and if my 4770k @ 4.4 cant keep me above 60 in those spots then you must have some cpu from the future.

no fps drop, YET. But having terrible burn in effect from the start, equally bad in my opinion......

I am running this on a GTX 770 OC (but running on stock settings) and on a I7 4770k, only in a few spots did I notice a frame rate drops otherwise its been smooth running through out. Tested it further I am averaging 50 fps to 60fps or higher depending on what happening on screen, the only drop out I had was in two transitional cut scenes where it was still loading.

Can the OP please state what OS they running?

V-sync seems to be the issue for me in my case. I have a 2600k@4.5 and a gtx 780 ghz card.

I manage to average mid 60s fps and minimums of mid 50's without vsync. With v-sync I get drops as low as 30 but mostly in the 40's.

I can play without it on my 120hz monitor but screen tearing on my led tv is terrible.

Don't believe him all you want, I also get 60 and use sli 970's.

I still say everyone of you claiming to stay at 60 fps the whole time are full of ♥♥♥♥. its not possible on my pc with an oced 4770k and every review I have looked at still dropped into the 50s at times no matter what cpu was used.

The game isn't cpu intensive on my side of things, it really makes the gpu work though and one 970 is not enough. Two gets it over 60 at 1440p. If their are drops they are small and only last for a short period of time (that I have not noticed).

When a game runs poorlyu I say it does. TEW (especially prepatch), Watch Dogs, Dead Rising 3, AC Unity, Far Cry 4 (prepatch) and so on. This runs in line with how I would expect. One 980 at 1440p in particular will not run this game at 60fps.

um its most certainly cpu intensive and that is a FACT. its one of the most cpu intensive games ever made and even scales with Intel 8 core/16 thread cpu. according to this only the Intel 8 cores can even stay above 60 fps the whole time.

I am only at 1080 and my gpu is NOT the problem as its usage is very low with the framerates drop.

just tried it on another hard drive with fresh install of OS and game and even the very newest driver and it runs exactly the same dropping below 60 quite a bit.

EDIT: setting the game to maximum performance in the Nvidia control panel now lets me get more usage keeping me pretty much pegged at 60 fps. still there is some odd little hitching and its not perfectly smooth.
