Possible Fix for Stuttering and low FPS
Hey Guys!

So I just bought this game today and noticed some FPS Spikes and weird stuttering. I was searching all over the forum but I found no real solution. Tried lowering the textures in the config file --> no fix. Tried lowering the in-game settings --> no fix. So I started googling the problem and noticed that Ryse also suffers from this Windows Timer and Hyper-Threading. So heres the fix for both! If your using an Xeon or i7 processor than this will most likely help you out!

1. Disabling Hyper-Threading:

Go into your BIOS by restarting your computer and pressing the button which will allow you to go in your BIOS (in my case the "DEL" button), search for the advanced tab and go to your cpu settings and "disable" Hyper-Threading.

2. Windows Timer

So you could probably download the tool but I found out you can just add a new text to the system.cfg in your ryse folder. Open up the system.cfg file and add "sys_highrestimer=1"
Save the file and close it.

Hope this helps some guys out there!

My Specs:

RADEON R9 390
INTEL i7 6700K
8GB RAM

(just go on my profile if you want to see the full list of specs)

What hard drive are you using?

Tried #2 but it didn't seem to work amd I don't want to mess with the first option because I don't want to mess with my BIOS. I am using an Nvida GTX 970 with 8 GB of ram and an AMD FX 8350, 4.0 eight core processor. And yet I still get lag. I did some research on the problem myself but couldn't really find anything. :(

Too bad, this game is a really bad port though. I still have the struggle with vsync as well..sometimes it locks at 30 and sometimes at 60 fps..normally hovering about 90 to 110 fps but it still felt weird without the fixes. At least we know its not our system since almost everybody has this problem. Other games run fine.

For the vsync problem you should try this:

Options menu: disable full screen and vsync

Go to Ryse install folder
Open system.cfg with notepad
add r_fullscreenwindow=1

then go into your graphics driver, in case of NVIDIA add Ryse and force adaptive vsync

Just out of curiosity

Do you guys have the stutter when saving as well like I have? I mean when you reach a checkpoint or pick up a collectible?

Thanks mate! And yeah the stutters there when saving..at least for me.

I also get stuttering and lag when I get checkpoints but not collectibles.

Game is beautiful but frame rate issues kil it - can't find a fix that works. Turning everythng down makes no difference. This sucks!

Hi guys i found a solution that works for me:

System:
4970k/GTX980TI/32GB RAM/Win 10 64-Bit

First i add in system.cfg:
sys_highrestimer=1 (but that alone did not help me)

i did NOT disable HT in the Bios:

but in the nvidia driver set for ryse.exe:

Adaptive sync

AND

Energy Mode (dont know the english word excatly): Maximum performance

Now i played 3 chapters WITHOUT ANY slowdown!!

Edit: i finished the game - no problems anymore! :D

this works for the stuttering during saves!! but what worked even better after doing these steps was setting physX processor to the gpu and not cpu hope this helps

None of the above , RYSE ran like a dream on my system everything maxed , constant 60fps with vsync on , overclocked systems are known to have issues , as were GFX cards with OC .

I have the game on PC and XBone , PC is the definitive version although Xbone did a good job. I use a velocirapter HDD and had zero issues when auto saving. Rock solid , so it can't be the game , it surely is down to your system , I will add that RYSE is still imo one of the best looking games I have ever played. Can't wait for the next Big Game from CryTek & CryEngine.
oh Yeah, definitely 16GB of ram helps.

I found another solution (the only one that worked for me) for the frequent stuttering in this game. Owning a R9 290, i used the program RadeonPro to force Triple Buffering in V-sync, AND i changed the value of "Flip Queue Size" to 5 (maximum). Stuttering has never reapperd anymore in the form it used to, so that the game became playable; however, this is not a definitive solution, because stuttering just moved on to a form of "smooth" frame slowdown (like 120 fps-->15 fps before this trick, to something like 120-->40/45; this number are just for writing purpose and not correct actually because frame drops were never registered by my on-screen display). In Nvida control panel, this trick could be achieved by adjusting the number of pre-renderized frames to what you feel is sufficient. Tried this on Asus R9 290, FX-8320.

I dislike the adaptive Vsync because the screen tears here and there, but this fixed my stuttering issues. Turned off Temporal AA and turned on 1.5x1.5 Supersampling.
