Absolutely awful game...start to finish
I have never posted here about the good/bad of a game. But this game is so profoundly terrible, that I had to say a bit.

Right from the start, where you can't config the controls, it is awful. Really? 2016 and I can't reconfig the controls? I have to use my mouse software to reconfigure your bastardized abortion of a control scheme? Great start.

You spend most of the game stabbing or blocking, but mainly reacting to a question...yellow or blue? You're not really playing, your just reacting, yellow or blue.

The final scene is also terrible. Instead of doing what you have been doing, stab/block/yellow or blue, it's now just yellow or blue. Trying to block or stab when the game doesn't want you to will cause you to fail. Don't be silly. Just wait for that yellow or blue.

Boss fights were terrible as well. It was: "oh, you beat him? Ok. Do it again."

And then, instead of just killing Nero, he does what he does (no spoiler). That is idiotic. Add the shared grin by 'those two' at the end. It was like the Joker from Batman, and his pop up jack in the box. Haaaaaa. Did a 12 yr old write the story? I understand the whole roman empire expand collapse history here, but this telling was childish (those evil wiker men...was waiting for Heather Donahue to pop out).

Basically, this game plays you. It was monumentally awful. I played the second half of the game just hoping it would soon be over. I could not uninstall it fast enough. It was an awful, painful experience.

The graphics were good though. That's one thing.

Ha ha, yup. You just gotta get some stuff out, right?

While I agree this isn't the best game, I just wanted to point out the game came out in 2014...not 2016.

Huh. I enjoyed the hell out of this game. When it worked on high end cards that is. It's a shame that they ruined the game for high end cards. On my gtx 980 i run the game at like 20 fps or so. Really liked the game though. Felt like a Total War game but where you only controlled one person which is just awesome. A good game where you have crazy huge battles but only control one person would be my dream game. That's probably why Mount and Blade Warband is one of my favorite games.

Sort of agree. Game feels very mediocre. It plays best with controller though as most PC games do. I wouldn't play this with the keyboard and would recommend a controller. You'll have more fun.

Graphically the game is meh. Taxing on the card and not really that great looking either. The char models are great however. Voices are good as are some dialogs.

Overall, a bit underwhelming game. Around 6/10 from me.

Loved evry minute of this game , felt I just had to say that :P , For me this game is a masterpiece , only way to play it is on Legendary , and the Co-op is great fun with a friend , lots of abilities to unlock and on my PC this game ranks as one of the best looking games I ever played , I own just about every game worth owning, maybe some people just could not max it out properly. Nothing touches the CryEngine for GFX IMO , not even Frostbite or Unreal 4 or ID6.

But too each their own.
who would use keyboard and mouse on a CONSOLE port? right there i stopped reading.

one of cooler roman games out there keep in mind its a import but game defo got a nice intro if they just made ryse2 and then learn from mistakes they made here, altho as intro-game i rly liked the the idea is good and... ohwell playing mouse/keyboard on a imported game is never a good idea, since this game whas ment to be Xbox exclusive.

I enjoyed this game, though sadly can't seem to find any multiplayer action happening. Took me a good 20 hours to beat it on hard and legendary (left it on pause several times...this sucker required breaks). I'm a hack n' slash nut though, so I'm pretty forgiving with these types of games. It wasn't perfect but it gave me the same kind of thrills that Spartan Total Warrior did (just wish it had cool bosses and a little weapon variety pizzazz like Spartan did).

Although I sure do agree about the final sequence to take down Nero. Without revealing too much for those that haven't played yet, boy was that an annoying, dumb game of chance.

Overall though, I'd throw Ryse a solid 8/10. I enjoyed the combat, simple as it was. Do away with the final sequence, have some better boss fights and more weapon variety and this could have been a classic. As it stands, it's a really good hack n' slasher for my money. It's a shame you didn't enjoy it at all! Bummer!

55 minutes of gameplay, and I was done with this garbarge. Even with a 75% discount, It was a bad purchase. 55 minutes and I already had 8 achievements, just for pressing LMB and RMB.

I played on the hardest difficulty it would allow for a first playthough and there were no colors other than the execution colors. You had to time everything correctly based off of nothing but the way an enemy was moving. Much more intense and fun than what you're describing.

Execution colors is what I was talking about. On the higher difficulties, you HAD to do good executions to boost health/focus. It took over the whole game. Blue or Yellow!!!! Quick, Blue or Yellow!!!!

You're not really playing, your just reacting, yellow or blue.

This is quite funny, and it is sort of true, during my entire playthrough i was saying to myself "dammit i hit the wrong color"

But i'm glad they took this approach for the quick time events, they are not punishing you for making a mistake with those things too much, you just lose some score points, the kill still happens regardless so i'm okay with that.

And i disagree about the ending, i thought the ending was fantastic... about the grim on their faces, maybe they were smiling at the way nero died, because you gotta admit, that was hilarious.

Though i agree, bad story for the most part. made me laugh and had some cool moments, but mostly pretty bad.
