Even in modern films, Germans speak English to each other in a WWII movie, except in Der Untergang
Translation, localization. A very good example, get Eternal Darkness on the GCN, play through the beginning. Roman soldiers will speak Latin, then slowly switch towards english. This is just how game design is. Yes, I would love it if they spoke Latin and read subs, but some game companies want to keep it simple. Another example, Metro 2033/Last Light, real language is Russian, but language used is English in the US, which is for Localization. You can change the language to the language the game is supposed to use, based on Localization. So, yea. I don't work in a company, but this is the best I can come up with based on what I personally think it is. Take it or leave it, that's up to you.
But why in movies and games romans and bad guys always have a english accent, is it because american and australian accents are not menacing enough?
It's sort of the Lord of the Rings effect. Any story, whether fictional or based on reality, that has a pre-firearm level of technology has to have british accents for some reason. It's sort of a "lingua franca," but instead of language it's accent. It might have something to do with standards that were set by british theater.
Makes sense, speaking american would sound stupid in ye olde films seeing as america is just over 200 years old.
2) Crytek is an european studio, thats why they choose british accent. + british sound more classy than american redneck potato accent.
no my friend english not build on latin base, spanish/french/italian and portuguese are build in latin base english & german are other build
