His abilities mostly suck. Turtle defense was used once when i fought a boss, hawk is OK and the only realy damaging ability, he does do high damage but compared to other classes he does next to nothing. Maybe i dont have good weapons or i must be playing him wrong but he feels just as though he's not gonna do more than sit around when playing with people when towers get put up.

Barb is good to stay alive in all situations. Once this done focus on damage and you'll get a nice hero, fun to play.

But I agree with the amulets making the same things that barb spell he may seems useless. To be honest I havent tried it in DDE.

They only shine in a handful of situations.

Barbarians are quite one-dimensional and, more often than not, can't compete with other classes because they simply have no defenses whatsoever at their disposal. Besides, they can only be at one place at a time, so the bigger the map; the more crystals there are to protect: the more obvious their shortcomings become.

They do excel at dispatching bosses.

If bosses were to appear in every map, Barbarians would
be a lot more valuable.

It's a DPS class. . .you don't play him by yourself. You play him when your with a friend that has much better towers than you.

So instead of sitting around in a class that won't be building towers because someone else has better. You're playing a class that can be skilled out for some stupid DPS and tank because you didn't have to focus on putting points into towers.

Barbarian and Summoner have both their uses and losses, you just have to find them. That's why they're high skill classes.

Only so many people can be builders in a match. If you're looking to solo with a class, the barbarian is definitely not the right class. He is a formidable army in his own sorts. Paired with the right amulets, weapons and stats though a barb can hold down a single choke point solo without building walls. If you pick the right choke point, gear and stats you can end up with 25% of the kills in any match.

The barb is a support role for the team as a whole and can do quick saves.

My favorite things to throw on a barbarian is 2 different elemental weapons, elemental affinity, curse, taunt, and flash heal.

As for pet? hell what i just said doesnt work with a cat so i dont think it even matters, though if your pets damage is also boosted via elemental affinity then whatever of the two elements you are not using on your swords would be best, i havent tested that though.

Great for some Challenges, like "No Towers" and any challenge that you need a lot of HP to survive, like the ones where you have to get through traps. Also as mentioned, bosses. Also, ogre's on harder difficulties. You can do over 1 million damage with Hawk Stance attack if you get exceptionally good gear. (I am speaking from DD1 experience, since I'm still new to DD:E, but I assume it's the same). Also, if playing solo, you can setup a defense, and then switch back to your Barbarian before each wave begins.
