Curse: The Eye of Isis

Curse: The Eye of Isis

Garbage game that I somehow love.
This is pure early aughts Euro-trash adventure game at its worst. The insane control scheme, the less than fun combat, the ridiculous plot... all pure garbage.

BUT... I love the voice actor's familiar soothing tones from other (better) games of that era.

His range goes from mildly amused to slightly bored and back again in an instant. No voice direction, no tutorial for the asinine combat/inventory. Just a terrible game that I never finished back when it was new,* and I see now that I am replaying the opening that i won't be finishing it ever.

It's jank makes it worth keeping in my library. Can anyone recommend any similar games I may have missed from back then?

*I still have the physical ROM disc and over-sized cardboard box it came in.

I really liked Undying, and replayed it recently. THAT's a game that I would love to see remade with modern tech!

hey sorry to come back and bug you again, have you seen Tormented Souls? Just watched a review for it and ended up picking it up, looks like we are looking for!!!!

^ I have not heard of that until you mentioned it. That certainly looks like the old school 3rd person puzzle/horror games from the 90s. I looks great! I just hope the combat isn't as reliant on quick reflexes as some games, or that there's an easy difficulty setting.

Similar to these Resident Evil/Silent Hill clones, there's Obscure (and its sequel.)
Janky movement controls and sometimes unfair combat, but played with heavy elements of cheesy VHS movies from that era.

absolutely, played and have both the first and the sequel! thye soundtrack fro the obscure games were some of my favorite growing up.... as for difficulty for tormented souls, youll be fine! its definitely not dark souls thats for sure, i thought the puzzles were more "challenging" than the game combat.

Do you have the "oversized" box, or a thick DVD sized box?

It's a cardboard box that held the jewel case CD and the manual.
It's this one: https://www.mobygames.com/game/curse-the-eye-of-isis/cover-art/gameCoverId,32010/

Ah okay, so the small box. Still cool that you have it.
Been trying to find the box big version for a pretty long time that was sold at Costco back in the day. Such a pain lol

Ah, I didn't realize there was another version.
It's funny you mention Costco, because back in the day I found more random pc adventure games there than at the stores dedicated to video games and software.

Honestly same. As a kid, my family went there all the time and all I had was a PC. So that was really my own version of gamestop. :P

There are tons of obscure gems from back then that aren't on Steam. Some obscure and others not. Like Diablo 1, Wheel of Time, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, The Suffering, Stranglehold, Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Nox. All of these are on GOG, but there are some that aren't even there due to licensing issues. Aliens VS Predator 2, No One Lives Forever, Battle For Middle Earth, Emperor Battle for Dune, etc. So many great games. If you're ever craving a random game just ask. I have an encyclopedia of this stuff basically :P
