How do you exit the game once you start playing it?

I've tried every key to try and leave the game but it wont let me, even if i press the Window button my mouse is then stuck in the middle of the screen and I can't move it

No it does not. And not only that I can not get the thing to load a save game either. No amount of clicking this way and that works. My PC is new from December 2025 and is up to date.

Esc works fine. Saving/loading also works.
This is a case of PEBCAK.

No, not PEBCAK. I am not some teenager or gorilla banging away at a keyboard in the hope that something happens. I have had decades of experience with PC software work. I have been using computers since just before Windows 1.0. YOU are simply fortunate this game is working with your combination of software and settings. For the rest of us this game simply does not fully function unless we have your magical sequence of "tick-boxes" all correctly aligned.

Does not work for me either. I can get the credits scrolling from the settings-menu, but nothing else works, can't even get back from the settings, because Esc is not workin. Alt-tab does not work, same goes for Ctrl+Alt+Del, the computer recognizes the commands, but the game just forces itself to full screen again, with no possibility to be fast enough to force it shut down from the task manager.

If ESC doesn't work for your Amerzone 1999, maybe there is something wrong with the keyboard mapping, keyboard driver or other PC system error. It might be a good idea to run some diagnostics, like sfc /scannow and or DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth (if error found /RestoreHealth) from an Administrator Command Prompt or run a program like Fortect to do a general fix. One might run DxDiag and create a DxDiag.txt file to send to Microids as a trouble ticket is created:

I know this must be a frustrating situation and I hope it can be resolved and this great game/story can be finished.

I didn't try ESC, but I tried a couple ways of tabbing out (ALT+TAB, WIN+TAB) with poor results. Ctrl+Alt+Del did work for me to shut the game down. Glad I got this game for free, as it appears it doesn't work on my computer.
