Multiple versions of this game?

So I started to play this game and got to the infamous chase sequence in the first level. Playing on hard, I was wondering if I was missing something or did the game really expect me to dodge bullets while running away (I guess the game did want me to dodge bullets). Getting frustrated and wondering if I was doing something wrong I looked up a guide only to find that the chase sequence was not mentioned at all but it said to stealth around the town (even though the broken fence is obvious as hell...). So I tried that only to find a small path that took me to an out of bound area where only one side of buildings were textured and the other side see through (and also passable one way). In this out of bounds area I found the barn I was suppose to go to in the guide but I couldn't do anything. As a side note, while stealthing past the first group of 'hombres' you will get shot even though no one notices you or reacts afterwards. The 'bullet' however will set your health to 82, thus healing you if you are lower!

Confused I looked on GameFAQs for more information. One FAQ has the stealth sequence while the other has the chase sequence. Stranger still is that the one with the chase sequence (was written for X360 version) has a prologue where you play as Ray and using a Gatling gun which never happened for me. I looked for some lets plays and found one that had the chase sequence while another one had the stealth sequence.

I decided to explore the area with God Mode on so that I can explore past enemies that seem to be unavoidable but that just leads to the entrance while the other direction has no enemies and leads to the unfinished area.

Does anyone have any information that can clarify this for me?

PS: The chase sequence has to be one of the worst that I have encountered since it appears to be mostly RNG whether or not you able to 'dodge' enough bullets.

It is a pity that I don't speak English.

This game has at least three different versions:

1) European 1.0.0.0. - 1.1.0.0. Includes cutting sub-level in the first level. Also changed the 4th level - there is stealth. Also includes a fix multiple bugs and facial animation. This is not a complete list of changes.

2) European 1.1.1.0. or North American 1.1.0.0. - 1.1.1.0 This version is sold in Steam.

3) Version for X-Box 360. Includes a lot of exclusive content. A little later I'll write a full list of the differences here.

Thanks for the reply, that helps with the confusion that I had though it seems to raise some more questions. According to Wikipedia, the European version was released for the PC 9 months before the game was released in North America. If that is the case, why would the NA version be a downgrade instead of being based on the better, previous version (if I am understanding you). Billy is suppose to be stealth based so in my opinion even a mediocre stealth section would be better a crappy chase sequence. Seriously though, chase sequences should have the illusion of danger and as long as you are doing what is expected from you (running away, avoiding obstacles, etc) you shouldn't die due to chance. At least I know the God Mode command if I ever decide to do that again.

I'm also confused why 1/4 of the first level was cuted out — it makes no sense. Missions with stealth were much more interesting.

Not to mention multiple problems with pacing and level design, there are several story issues which were brought with DX10 upgrade. For example Billy gets a bow long before he obliged to use it for Calm Water's quest. Luckily I still have 1.0 version from 1C, but it's also not without its sins... I mean Starforce ofcourse.

Can somebody help me get the original version (with the sneaking) ? Also the bow is not really bugged, it's more about developers reusing the tooltips without deleting them from further episodes. With the chase sequence (broken fence), on very hard Difficulty you must carry a box while moonwalking to prevent being hit by bullets.

Yes, now I know how to install it. The installer is based on a hacked Russian boxed CD version, but I found a way to translate it into English too. And the installation key is taken from the photo on Ebay.))) Only for people who bought the game in Steam.

Many people asked for a working version 1.0.0.0, I did as I can. Two things! When you delete 1.0.0.0, registry keys remain in the system and save files too. I think these are small flaws, at this moment I can't make better. After uninstalling the game, you will have to delete the save and registry keys manually, and then install 1.1.1.0 or any other CoJ version.
