Also slaughtering npcs just cause you don't want to play the game properly was kind of a thing mindless gta brought in. It wasn't a thing in zelda, elder scrolls, and other games. Kings field for example. Yes you had the freedom to kill people in kings field but there goes your vendor, items, and quests.
Basically the just kill an npc and simplify things is a new gamer thing within the last 20 or so years created for a generation that was weaned on GTA and other simplistic, steal and run or drive games. In older games you faced real consequences, and in real life its the same especially in the west. Outlaws might of gotten away with those acts for a little while until they got infamous then everything from rangers to bounty hunters were now hunting them like animals.
Its also kind of downplaying any perceived responsibility or imagination on the part of the player. Why can't I just kill him? Completely ignoring the mindset of the character who he automatically thinks should be deranged and psychotic by default for some odd reason.
I can't change your mind, but mine is already made up, and the game is a master piece.
