Saints Row: Gat out of Hell

For the fans of the old Saints Row games.
I know there are people out there who can be very passionate about a particular game series, and with a series that has changed as much as Saints Row has, there are bound to be a lot of old fans who are upset with what this series has become. I am one of those and I despise these new games that have the phrase "Saints Row" slapped on, it's depressing to me. I'm not going to rant about it here, you can check out my review for Saints Row IV if you want to see that. I love Saints Row and Saints Row 2 but everything after that is crap. If you agree with what I'm saying than check out my group, R.I.P. SAINTS ROW. I'm not expecting that everyone agrees with my opinion, I expect many of you to oppose it, but if you do, please give a reason why. Thank you for your time. ~RIP Saints Row

While I disagree with you, I can understand why you don't like the change. I also respect that you created a seperate area for the discussion outside of the main hub, because it can get frustrating when there's a million seperate threads discussing the same things.

Thank you for understanding

Well for me sr2 and 3/4 are good games, just diffrent. If you like more sr2 type you have gta, mafia, sleeping dogs, la noire etc.

Everyone says that but I don't understand why, they are completely different games. I like SR 1 and 2 because I liked the feeling of taking down gangs in different story archs. There was so much better customization for everything in the older games. Now you can't even customize your character. I enjoy all those games you listed but SR 1 and 2 had a certain charm about it... I just can't explain it.

QUESTION: There is a Saints Row 2 forum. Why not post this there INSTEAD of here? This is a forum for Saints Row Gat Out of Hell, and while you don't have to like GooH to post here, I really don't understand why so many people who haven't bought GooH and aren't interested in GooH and insist they do not like GooH are on a GooH message board.
I can understand old fans disappointment when a series changes too much. Be part of a series means more of the same.

But I can't respect the drama about it.

Why do you think Modern Warfare 2 has all of these ridiculous DLCs like Havoc out now? Because CRAZY is IN! After years of emo games like the Tom Clancy series, people want to cut loose!
I think there should be some kind of balance in the game industry. For every 10 serious games, there should be 2 comedy games.
That's really all Saints Row was. The crazy was just ramped up each time.
If you kept up with the gaming news, there was some corporate politics involved in the creation of SR3. Any serious story that Volition thought of was considered "too dark" by THQ, who were on the verge of bankruptcy. That's why you got an invisible Gat death and a pissed-off Shaundi.

You have a valid point in one aspect but in others your argument for why you feel the way you do is weak. SR clearly leaned into the whacky aspect in SR4, but SR3 is not that great a departure from SR2, with the Poop trucks and numeruos other whacky things.

I think there is a place for both. SR3 is my favorite of all, in part because it has a good balance of silly and realism, (i hate the word realism in video games.) I have enjoyed them all and i enjoy this one as well. I still think SR3 was way, way, way, more fun than GTA4.

With that said i would love a return to a more crime/gang based game like we saw in 2 and 3.

Perfect point, but the answer to the question is that he wants to recruit people for his crazy cult.
Crazy cult??? It's just a group of Saints Row fans who miss the old formula and don't care for the new one.

The reason you think SR3/4/GooH are "betrayals" is because you never understood what SR was to begin with. Which is a PARODY of gangster games. V dips into drama once in a while, but at the end of the day,SR was never serious and never intended to be "realistic".

What SR was is what SR is now, they're just using more recent references.

Case in point, the gangs in SR1 were broad stereotypes. Los Carnales are running around in zoot suits, for gods sake. Who the ♥♥♥♥ wears that ♥♥♥♥ but hipsters trying to be retro? Westside Rollers were an obvious jab at Fast and Furious. And Vice Kings were "music industry thugs" made popular by many a rapper with claims of being "hard". Did you ever notice the running animation when you break into a store in SR1 after hours and rob the safe and you're carrying the "goods"? It's the same as the crack head at the start of Friday. The boss criticized Luz's fashion sense. And it only gets worse from there.

SR2's gangs were all clearer movie references. Brotherhood,The Warriors. Sons of Samedi, the drug gang from Predator 2. Ronin,Crazy 88 from Kill Bill. Hey,remember the boss fight with the voodoo priest who attacks you with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MAGIC!?! TOTALLY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SERIOUS,RIGHT!?! Remember when you base jumped THROUGH an exploding building instead of OUT of an exploding building? Oh,and lets not forget SPRAYING ♥♥♥♥ ALL OVER EVERYTHING WITH AN ANGRY MIME!!!! Oh,and remember Aisha's death scene? The one that was like something out of an anime? Have you ever even seen an anime? ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ noobs, man.

Oh,remember when you rescued Gat at the hospital? How ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous you looked wheeling his ass down a hallway while shooting Ronin? Yeah. Serious ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gangsta story. ♥♥♥♥ you.

Remember the Destory UFO? It was supposed to have a laser and missiles but they couldn't get them to work in SR2. Sound familiar? It's the load out to the VTOL in SR3! The only reason SR2 wasn't more insane is they really couldn't make it more insane. Remember the Real Bots factory? Remember how you got the chief of police as a homie to help you kill cops?

Saints Row was NEVER serious. You just didn't get the joke.

Really as long as they keep the Gang Theme: lore: customization: cars: and cheesy acting. I'm good with it? Never knew Gat's VA is on Hawaii 5 O. (Made the cop ending even funnier)
SR2 was hooked
SR3 Still hooked : Missed the Getting drunk and other stuff, and really no bling, but other than that it was all good. What happen to "freckle ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥"
SR4 - still hooked and loved the lore "an how the brought back gat was funny" and "F--- Cancer"
lol
SR GOOH made me laugh, and really enjoyed the game: even thought missing the customization part: for a short game it was entertaining.

The things I miss in SR2 were the amount of customization and the number of places I could actually walk into. The maps were epic.

It's not the serious aspect we all miss about it. It's all the content they removed. That and how the older games could be serious sometimes and crazy others. It had the best of both worlds but now it's just one. Anyway, we miss the old city and all it's diversity, we miss the old clothing customization, we miss how it used to have different story arc for the gangs instead of just one, how civilians actually did stuff instead of just walking in a straight line and fading away, and how the game had actual missions instead of just giving you activities from the first ones and calling them "missions." It just seems like they aren't putting as much effort into it anymore.

Just a note that we read and appreciate all feedback, both positive and negative. Thanks for keeping the discussion civil and intelligent on both sides.
