Submerged crashes immediately on startup, SOLVED
I am running Windows 7 x64, and the game simply would not start for me. It would immediately crash with some of the following details:

Fault Module Name: MSVCR120.dll
Fault Module Version: 12.0.21005.1

leading me to believe it was an issue with the runtime libraries. I ran repair on all the libraries, updated my graphics drivers, verified the game cache, and ran all Windows updates EXCEPT for Windows SP1. I usually avoid the service packs, due to Microsoft's tendency to remove features that I like. (See XPSP4).

Typically, most things that come in a service pack are also distributed individually with updates, so they're never really a concern for me. However in researching that crash, I found some forums related to the Unreal Engine (the engine Submerged uses), and a few people claiming that SP1 fixes the issue, so I gave it a try.

TLDR: If the game is crashing with the module listed above, install Windows 7 Service Pack 1. It may work for you the way it worked for me.

After doing some searching myself, it seems to happen when people don't have the MS visual C++ 2013 redistributables installed.

Steam should be automatically installing the VS 2013 runtime, however it may be skipping the step for some unknown reason.

You can manually grab the runtime and install it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

Could people let me know if this solves the issue for them?

Cheers guys.

It's likely that missing those runtimes would cause similar or same behavior, but in my case, all the runtimes were properly installed. I had even run the repair install on them (VS 2012 and VS 2013 runtimes appear to be packaged with the game, so I ran/reran them both) to no avail. Only after SP1 did the game start working.

Marta do you try installing the VS2013 runtime?

This should be the link for RU

Which version did you try? There is an x64 and x86 version.

The game should require the x64 version.

Also have a look in this thread: http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/615086038672294030/

It's from the ARK: Survival Evolved forums. They are using Unreal Engine 4 as well.
Give some of the solutions in there a go, and let us know what works.

Good luck. :)

Hi Sigma,

You could try un-installing all versions of the VS 2013 (x86 AND x64) and then running the UE4 prerequisites installer found here:

Steam/steamapps/common/Submerged/Engine/Extras/Redist/en-us/UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe

Let me know if that works for you. (restart your after installing if it doesn't work initially)

Do note that the order you install the runtimes does actually affect whether programs can detect the right version (Windows fun! :SUBANGRY:)
You'll need to re-download and install the x86 version once you confirm whether it actually works or not. ( grab it from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784&751be11f-ede8-5a0c-058c-2ee190a24fa6=True )

Hopefully that works for you. :B1:

Thank you devs but it still isn't not working :( I've also tried uninstalling the 2017 redists that I had installed. Here is the crash log, maybe it can be useful: https://imgur.com/a/W8IHn
I hope I can get it fixed :)

So the crash you're seeing is completely different to the one this thread is about.

Try the solution mentioned here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/301860/discussions/0/535152511357515037/#c405691491122653562
(Mainly the manually run the Submerged-Win64-Shipping.exe in the following folder solution:
Steam\steamapps\common\Submerged\Submerged\Binaries\Win64\Submerged-Win64-Shipping.exe)

It's best if you don't continue to necro this thread. :EpochHappy:

Oh, I'm so sorry. I guess that in desperation I dindn't even checked if this was my issue. I'm going to try that out. Thanks!
