concern over doom: the dark ages pc requirements
so, with doom: the dark ages coming up, a lot of us are excited to see what id software has cooked up this time. but there’s also some concern about the pc requirements, especially after recent games have been pushing hardware limits harder than ever.

some AAA devs are also moving towards ray tracing as a baseline instead of an optional feature. while id tech is insanely optimized, its rather concerning that raytracing is required. if the game is truly pushing visuals further than doom eternal, it could mean higher vram demands, which is already a problem for mid-range gpus.

if an nvme is required, it could leave people with older hard drives or even sata ssds struggling. and if ray tracing is mandatory, then gtx and older radeon cards might not even be able to run the game properly.
is this a problem?

some argue that it’s just the natural progression of gaming, but others feel like devs are pushing requirements too hard, too fast. not everyone has upgraded to an nvme drive or an rtx card yet, and if doom TDA demands both, it could leave a chunk of the player base behind.

what do you guys think? are these concerns valid, or are we just worrying too much?

Not really a concern. Hardware gets cheaper as it gets older, meaning you could also wait several years for that, but that is itself a problem.
Unfortunately people will always, sooner or later, have to upgrade their computers to be able to play more complex games. It's simply how it works.
More powerfull technology on market => Developers ability to make bigger games that require more powerfull technology => Gamers have to upgrade
Not really something to worry about, it's just the way it works.
