doom the dark ages forcing Ray tracing sucks...
as the title said it sucks that ID decided to force Ray tracing on players. to even start the game. I never cared about RT and in the first person shooter games I really don't care the reflections while Kiling demons.

also is so darn expensive it's R$349 here in Brazil which is a lot of money for a game.

I'll eventually buy it on sale because somehow valve found a way to run forced Ray tracing games on the steam deck like the Indiana Jones.

curious I saw some people saying that the game is optimized enough to run a low end hardware... how low wind are we talking about here? I don't know if the guy is lying or not but I do not believe dark ages can run well on a low end system, tho doom eternal can.

anyway my hype is down but I'm curious to know this statement is true or not.

players that played previous dooms, does the ray Tracing makes any difference on the fighting?

Jesus. Google why its a requirement? May even expand your "understanding" of what you imagine ray tracing is and what it be used for...

/facepalm

Going RT only isn't about effects or reflections. It's about changing the way levels are designed. Essentially, instead of layering a bunch of lights to get the desired effect, now the designer just says "there's such-and-such light source that exists within the game world" and it's taken care of from there.

I do agree that it's too soon for every game to go RT-only, but sooner or later, RT-only games were going to happen, and id Software being one of the first isn't unexpected.
The thing is you can do RT lighting without RT hardware support, that's what unreals lumen essentially is. Its a bit less accurate but it works.

Lumen is one of the worst things about UE5, the flickers, noise and ghosting, baked lights and regular SSAO are much much better than that half-baked sh*t

the meatriding in here is crazy :/
RT is not solely about visual fidelity. It speeds up production as well.

What eases the problem a bit is how insanely well optimized the engine is. I'm also forced to play this game with an Ally X currently which isn't the best, but I'm still able to run it in a playable state which I thought would be impossible.
Get over it
Lighting is a vast improvement over Eternal's

As for price have a look at Silent Hill 2 on steam......rofl
well... i guess I hate ray tracing. I rather turn it off to gain 120 fps then just 60 on doom. and no... I will not use frame gen, latency goes to the roof! that's sad tho I wanted to play doom, but I flat out refuse to buy any card with Ray tracing, coz I'm not a PC use, I'm a handheld PC user.

also prices... until they figure out a way to use that forced system without asking for a fortune, I will be skipping a lot of games.

by the way I am aware the steam deck OLED has a ray Tracing capability.
and I don't care how good the light is... I just wanna kill demons like I said.

and to be honest... I don't like this doom as much as enternal. so... what's the point for me buying it? none I guess.

but I will stand with my sentiment about ray tracing. it's not needed at this point. if you defend this thing... I'm definitely on the opposite side.

that's why I love older games.... lol cheaper and easy to run, and much much fun too. but I had no idea silent Hill 2 was forced ray tracing... damn sad

the game is indeed optimized pretty well imho. my rig is "mid" tier and im playing it just fine.

cpu - 7600x 6 core cpu
gpu - 7800xt maybe mid tier?
32gb ram
os - Linux (CachyOS)

ultra nightmare settings, FSR on Quality, no frame gen, 1440p resolution, I am getting around 80-130 fps depending on the scene. no shuttering at all, very smooth.

To gain a better appreciation (and understanding) of ray tracing and why it exists in this game, start watching this video from roughly 8:28 onwards:
