We gotta talk about the graphics
Optimization is completely absent from the game man 😭 you're forced to play with ass graphics unless you have a CPU more performant than a i5, 32 gigs of ram and a GPU equivalent or better than a 5060 this is genuinely annoying.
I have an i5 14th gen, 4060 and 32 ram, and the best i can do is a 1920×1120 resolution, dlaa on, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ textures and volumetrics for a mere 80 fps.
I can reach 147 fps but the game gets so horrendous my eyes are genuinely burning
So yeah please optimize the game or do something about the graphics cuz it's the biggest disappointment for me so far

Move the monitor away a bit, that should do the trick.

Funny the game looks and plays great on my 3060.

How many hz is your monitor? Sounds like 60hz, if it is you dont need the extra fps, if it isn't you can't reach it anyways. Just go for 60fps and turn up the graphics, there is nothing wrong with 60fps. I'm playing 4k/60hz and it looks fantastic @ ultra nightmare. It runs like a typical idtech engine game, super smooth gameplay.

Sorry OP but the game runs like a charm with my none high end PC (Ryzen 5 5600x, RTX4070 and 32GB RAM) and i run it on 2560x1440 most settings on Ultra Nightmare some on Nightmare. DLSS set to quality and Frame gen turned OFF!!!

No lags no stuttering no screen tearing nothing.
And the game and graphics look amazing. Anyone who says this game looks bad should really stop playing games with overused lense flare.
Also using a decent monitor helps a lot. Maybe all the "graphics bad" people still use a TN or even a CRT monitor. :D

And I'm astonished how there are literally no loading screens other than the unskippable title screen at game start. From the menu every map and mission loads in literally 1sec.

Some modern games actually look a lot better on CRTs, and some PVMs you can get have resolutions higher than QHD. While not being higher than QHD, I beat Alan Wake 2 on a Viewsonic A90f at 1600 x 1200 at it was phenomenal with path tracing.

Sounds like you have a a trash monitor and an absolute toaster of a PC

CRT image quality far exceed current flatscreen tech. No contest. Downside? small screen HUGE container and heavy as all hell.
anyone who remember gaming on a nice CRT 2048 x 1536 in HalfLife2 and DOOM3 cant attest to the lower quality image we get now. Ive been throw every single piece of monitor tech and best it got was Neo Plasma (Dead tech now).
I miss my CRT but getting a good one nowadays is nearly impossible. Even if you want to pay a couple of thousand $. High quality CRT = rich people.

Yeah doom went from being technology marvels with the 2 Doom games to this, how tf does this even happens?

Yeah playing Doom 64 on a rear projection plasma back in the day was certainly an experience lol. Looking back on it those big boys sucked at just about everything though but as a kid it like was staring at the sun sitting on the floor
You guys throw that word optimization around like it's no one's business..

Unless you can go into the engine and see where it's not optimized you have no idea how optimized it is lol...even IF it only runs on high end hardware

idTech8 is def not optimized like it all idTech engines should be and have been before it.

And you base that on what? There is an interview where they talk about exactly what optimisations they did, and believe me thats some very low level optimisation if you know anything about programing.

What you mean is this engine is doing more work than the eternal engine RT is not free and has a compute cost no matter how much you optimise.

However this game out performs any engine using RT I have thus far seen and having heard them discuss the level of optimisation they did I can see why.

Go on make some silly comment that compounds your ignorance.

Nah. Digital Foundry did an analysis. The game runs really well. Upgrade your potato. Stop looking for something to blame. The only problem is your PC.
