Id. You, me, and you again, KNOW that this is a downgrade. Don't do this again. I already am playing Eternal again to fill the empty hole that Eternal and 2016 used to fill.

This one is just a bit different from Eternal. They took chances. They are brave developers. The only thing that's missing is an awesome music from Maestro Mick Gordon.

I agree that the music sucks but I disagree that it's just a tiny bit different since the overall impact of playing Eternal and 2016 versus this game is a huge night and day difference. This is such a boring downgrade compared to Eternal and 2016
100% correct. and they want $120AU for this crap lol. get f'd.
I fully understand not every game can be Doom Eternal

It is the greatest boomer shooter ever and besides some RPG fusions...it's the best SP FPS ever created
Agreed. I miss OG Doom and Eternal. This game is a far cry from what Doom should be. Just feels diluted and gimmicky. Definitely not worth the money. I was used to questioning the value of a Bethesda title. But now I have to do the same for an id game. The brand used to mean something.

I feel differently - I think they played it safe.

Parrying as a mechanic is completely oversaturated in modern video games. It's everywhere, and now its here. And its completely overpowering the rest of the game.

Id didnt have the courage to make this a difficult game in the same way Eternal was. Nightmare was simple and if its what they designed the game around it feels like tourist mode compared to Eternal's nightmare. Sliders aren't going to fix that.

I dont really care what they do next, but I hope they ask more of the player than they did in TDA.

They also chased after the twitchy fast paced shooters fad with Eternal and 2016 was a rehash of Doom 1 and Doom 3. Basically has modern id ever been experimental?

I want more of the atmospheric and spooky underwater exploration in the cosmic realm. I'd play a whole game of that to be honest. The cosmic realm in general is a great setting but the moody underwater sections gave be the best kind of creeps.

Eternal all the way!
I was pretty disappointed by this game for a bunch of reasons. The biggest being its WAY too arcadey. Your average indie studio could create this game inside of 3 years with a $10 million budget.
Taking away Glory Kills is inexcusable. To many cut scenes and trying to be Halo. It's a mixed bag for me, the parry system and giant balls are WAY over used.

Except that it's an upgrade in every possible way, provided you have good hardware.

Out of the three Bethesdoom games, The Dark Ages has the least amount of disappointing elements.

My biggest issue with Doom 2016 was that the presentation was all action with the protagonist aggressively ignoring anything story related but the game would lock you in place every chance it could while exposition monologues played out.

My biggest issue with Eternal was how intrusive the upgrading process was for everything. Being transported to the Fortress of Doom after every level to walk the halls and spend two batteries on every little thing is just bad for pacing.

My biggest issue with The Dark Ages is that sometimes a melee swing, glory strike or shield throw doesn't feel like it registers the first time its pressed, and end up pressing them a few times in a row which can queue them up and may end up wasting a melee shot.

The exploration, vibe and pacing are a big upgrade. In the combat and mechanics department, it's on par but a little different, as each one is mechanically unique.

Weird take from me:
I find 2016 and Eternal better than TDA when playing every three on Nightmare
TDA felt better than last two on Ultra Nightmare.

Edit: but in the end OG Doom 1 and 2 are still the best.
