Maybe but I really doubt it. If they did, it really could just be simple death match. Hell, throw it back to the old days and just make it cut up levels from the campaign I don;t even care. Doesn't even need to be fully new levels designed just for multiplayer.
If they release Quake without multiplayer, that would be wtf. But DOOM since i first played 30 years ago was a single player blow ♥♥♥♥ up ♥♥♥♥ you game.
And that's what we got lol
Uh, you are absolutely incorrect. The first DOOM did have multiplayer.. It's where and when the term Deathmatch was coined and it's widely credited as bringing multiplayer FPS to the spotlight.
A different set of devs probably would have been assigned to create multiplayer, so what's happened is they have removed past features that were a staple of the series and genre and also charged top dollar. Not even extensive single player modes or co-op. Basically it's a scammy release and that's why it's flopped despite what some of the corporate slop gobblers want to say on forums.
MP would be a waste of resources. Kids are playing COD and Frognite anyway, as well as all their other forver GAAS slop.
Fair enough that you enjoy it this way. Different strokes for different folks. In my personal opinion though this is Bethesda/ID with the backing of Microsoft charging $80 for a game. There is no way Microsoft couldn't have been able to easily afford a small second team tasked with implementing a basic multiplayer Deathmatch mode.
It's freaking DOOM. Most of younger folks probably don't care but DOOM ushered in the Deathmatch craze that would take over gaming for decades to come. It's absolutely shameful there isn't a basic multiplayer feature. DOOM has had it for over 30 years!?
Multiplayer would require slow mo to be disabled, but they have said we're probably getting that as a toggle for single player anyway, so that isn't impossible
Doom didnt have competition dedicated to an MP experience in the 90's. And the MP formula Doom used back then is pretty simplistic and outdated compared to the competition (of which it had almost none of at the time).
