- Completely overpriced
- ZERO post-campaign content (sliders don't count)
- No extra game modes other than campaign
- Absolutely lame skins... in a single player, first person shooter game
- No multiplayer
- Cut off a huge portion of a userbase in the (un)holy name of raytracing
- Gamepass
- Lots of people expected Eternal 2.0/2016 2.0
Even when the gameplay is fantastic, and even that is subjective, that's all it has going for it. Honeymoon phase is over, this has to be one of the most lamest releases iD has done. All that's left now is DLC, which lets be honest, is going to be something also beyond lame like a 5 chapter campaign. Then iD is going to phuck off.
- Expedition 33 seems like a better game overall.
- I want Stellar Blade
And I want also Khazan, BMWukong, Lies of P, Armored Core VI, Nier Replicant, and many many others games that I missed.
That's it, Doom Dark Ages will have to wait, there is absolutly nothing in this game that I want right now, I loved Eternal, and I don't really enjoy playing as a tank, I like fast paced vertical gameplay.
I'll give Doom Dark Ages a chance of course, but it'll have to wait, and I'm not going to spend €80 on a single game that looks absolutely no better than its predecessor.
I think the game would have been a banger between 50 and 60€ on steam, and maybe a bit more content and replayability, more Doom, more BFG, more arena and labyrinth, less shield, less Goldorak and less dragon riding.
Maybe I'll buy it next sales.
- Amazingly fun, polished game
- 2nd highest global top seller on Steam at release ( https://steamdb.info/topsellers/2025W21/ )
- Very Positive (https://store.steampowered.com/app/3017860/DOOM_The_Dark_Ages/ )
- 10% higher player retention than last Doom game in week of release ( https://steamdb.info/app/3017860/charts/ )
- probably the best damage model in any game FPS with no frame tank
- ray traced engine looks beautiful and runs like a hot knife through butter
- biggest id launch ever per gp platform
Literally the only bad thing is ridiculous price point on Steam.
If you can't play it I sympathise man, we all have to wait to play a game some time, but there are some amazing mods for classic Doom while you wait
For instance the Doom RTX mod is really nice and can run on scrap metal PCs
The fact that you went out of your way to research and find "Already out of the top 15" says a lot about you. You do realize you are taking about a literal game, NO?
Very sympathetic Statement
In alternate reality, sure, this game is a winner.
"2nd highest global seller on Steam", you're like a meme of the guy biting a medal and going crazy while being last place. You know even indie games do this on release?
You can't pay salaries with positive reviews.
I'm sure the devs and publishers are just jizzing their pants from that 10% metric. Especially when usually game budgets are increased for each release, when the previous release did wonders.
Damage model....woo.....
Again. No multiplayer. Sliders as post-campaign content. Lazy skins in a first person shooter game. No extra modes whatsoever. But yea, this game is a clear winner, and 6k gamers WORLDWIDE will certainly agree with you.
And gameplay wise- shield, focus on melee and deflecting projectiles- sounds meh for a Doom game. Eternal was bad already, this sounds even worse. Maybe it plays well, but i dont even want to try tbh.
It did good enough for ID to maintain the franchise, an upcoming dlc is coming and then maybe another doom game several years laters , now go and do something useful.
Imagine buying Resident Evil 1 for $100, booting it up and then crashing every 20 minutes, because of "driver issues", despite having the newest drivers installed.
Then you collect your first key inside the Mansion and suddenly a yellow line appears on the screen guiding you to the door you have to put the key into. And every item you collect and object you can interact with is covered in neon colors and yellow paint:

And every 20 minutes you have to do a gimmicky vehicle section, which has nothing to do with the actual game, like driving a forklift around the Mansion to sort freight boxes, or telepathically controlling a crow to do auto lock on mini-games against wasp nests on the Mansion........interrupted from MCU style cutscenes every other 20 minutes, which have also nothing to do with the events happening on the Mansion.
And every time you hit a zombie the game switches into slo mo. 😅
I can only imagine how quickly the younger, quicker players get through it.
If it wasnt for the fact I had 12000 ish points on my xbox account which meant I could spend 9k of those for a free month I probably would have waited until a sale.
I was fairly lucky with performance with an ageing 3090/I9900k which gave me 50-60 fps on ultra-nightmare gfx settings using DLSS, but having the RT as a requirement to play will have hurt their figures and honestly, sure it looked pretty, but no more really than Eternal to my old eyes at least.
I enjoyed it for what it's worth.
