The more I play it the more I enjoy.
Yes , it's weird in some parts and some decisions are bad or odd but I guess that still means that games can improve and it's very rare to get that perfect game. I am a life long fan of DOOM and played it before more posters here were born.
All in all it's a very enjoyable game.
I prefer the sci-fi / tech / space horror setting more but this is fun too.
Variation is also good. Maybe a DLC will be more sci-fi, who knows.
AAA games today are going through a trial of fire and getting a very nice DOOM game is better than anyone could have expected when AAA studios are closing down left and right because corporate greedy fks and investors, executive boards and etc have been controlling an ART medium because they want MORE MONEY. In 3-5 years when the AAA gaming industry has finished their great rest and the lost talent has found new studios ( Exp33 for example) we will be showering in great games. Just in time for Covid part 2 or WW3.
YOU GUNNA GET COMFY AND BE HAPPY.
I hear you man! Me 2 .. I also bouught that edition. And I love the game and franchise and have so far spend 120 hours ingame! ;) And I love my Slayer figurine! ;)
I managed to break the plastic pin on the cape on mine, very annoying but unnoticeable as one pin and bending the metal makes the cape stay in place. The figure is very nice.
The steel book and red key are useless.
I will fix it when I have time and energy for it.
Beyond the pricing which is just too high and the unnecessary addition of Denuvo and Ray-Tracing (they would have saved more money and effort not implementing it into the engine than they would have lost baking lighting into the models), the gameplay has 3 distinct design flaws I noticed while playing on maximum difficulty.
Sprinting is a direct downgrade from dashing or even just your standard strafing in from the og Doom games as you're forced to look away from the enemy to avoid their attacks, both not being able to shoot and not being able to see the attacks. Its one thing if we couldn't sprint and shoot at the same time, but because the sprint is tied to the direction you're facing, it kinda works against dodging attacks since you can't even see them coming.
The melee, while being good for boss fights as it lets you get ammo without a need for a horde of grunts, is worse than glory kills or the chainsaw since its just as slow and immobile but doesn't make you invulnerable to damage, making it a greater risk than reward. If you could move while performing them, allowing you to avoid attacks, it would make them significantly more usable.
The shield's guard feels more like a punishment than a tool as on higher difficulties normal attacks can get through it easily, meaning that you're still forced to avoid attacks normally by moving out of the way, which is especially annoying against Chaingunners, Arachnatrons and Cyberdemons who's hit-scan machine gun fire is unavoidable and will tear through your shield with ease, punishing you for trying to block their attack by getting rid of your shield throw, parry and shield bash until it recovers. They are designed so they can't kill you by doing little to no damage once you're at 5 health or below, but that feels more like the devs took pity on the players than it being a genuine design choice.
Personally, I like the idea of the shield instantly breaking if used incorrectly, but if that were intended, the aforementioned enemies' machine gun fire should be made parry-able as they are otherwise unavoidable.
When the difficulty is low, I don't feel the need to use the sprint, melee or shield guard. When the difficulty is high, I'm punished for trying to use the sprint, melee or shield guard.
There would have been better ways to implement the above.
They lowered the eternal puzzle pinata ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ while someone still insisted keeping the above in place and this is the result.
On higher difficulties you have to prioritize certain enemies or you will get rekt.
I don't mind. The game flows better than eternal and you can actually use most weapons whenever you feel like it. Eternal literally made some weapons not do any damage at all which is completely stupid in a Doom game. All to force that puzzle solving resource managing game-play. Eternal otherwise is a very nice game when you give up playing your own way and just play it the way the game director wanted you to play.
Doom 16 is still the best neo-doom.
I just mostly ignore them
Some will pump their foot on the gas and lose faster, lose further and harder. With every game release they push against owning games and push game pass harder, dive headlong into Microsoft's pocketbook like half-wit lemmings. Let people do as they wish but we will still have this game.
Most definitely.
Cyberdemon is 1st priority because hitscan. Spiders are prio 2.
Just fly around with your magical 100 meter shield bash targeting the big boys while blasting super shotgun in their face.
Game is just fun man. Far from perfect but it's fun.
I haven't smiled in a long time playing video games. They did the super shotgun just lovely.
Also the Impaler is VERY satisfying on medium grunts making them fly 20 meter and get stuck on the well behind them.
This game is a blast.
Shame non steam purchases can't be reviewed here.
Oh I am sorry to hear my friend! Although I luckily did not break mine I did initially had some troube getting it on! haha! :) But eventually I got it.. and I also had to "bend" the metal a little to make the cape sit like it should. If everything fails- maybe you can give it just a dot of superglue or something But I hope you somehow get it fixed! I agree on the red keycard and box... seems useless.. But yes the figure is very nice and high quality imo.
Because I can't clear the entire freaking screen in 1 shield bash. I upgraded the shield throw so I can hit multiple enemies at the same time.
However, if you didn't know, lesser enemies continue to spawn indefinitely until the fight is over . This means that once I'm done clearing out all of the grunts, they'll respawn, very quickly as a matter of fact.
Once the primary enemies are killed, you'll even see the lesser enemies disappear as they retreat without a leader.
I also think the game is fun.
This is why I hate the parts that make it un-fun.
Cyberdemon IS priority, however, I cannot deal with him when I'm being railed by countless projectiles. While I'm parrying him, it takes one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to take a cheap shot at me for me to either lose most of my health, or lose my shield, the latter being a death sentence when I'm in melee range to a Cyberdemon.
It wouldn't be an issue if the game made us move slow as molasses when not sprinting and sprinting didn't force me to look away from the enemy about to impale me with his middle finger.
I am stuck between the Cyberdemon kill me, or everything other than the Cyberdemon killing me. In the end I did manage to beat the encounter but it was frustrating and a serious waste of time.
People genuinely praised Doom 2016 for not having a sprint.
