DOOM: The Dark Ages

Proof That Shield is ♥♥♥♥♥.
I just finished watching Midnight playing the game, and I watched the full cinematic. The Dark Ages happens before 2016, but we don't have shield in 2016 neither in Eternal, which means Doom Guy decided to ditch the shield to fast swap weapons. SO... Unless ID releases another DOOM that happens between Dark Ages and 2016 explaining how he loses the shield, it's definite, by lore and game play, that shield is inferior.

Prove me wrong.

The game HAPPENS before 2016 and Eternal, lorewise.

Lorewise the shield got Doomguy where he is today. He'd be nothing without the shield. He'd be parry slurry without that shield.

The Maykrs forced DooM guy to use the shield and after they lost control of him, he ditches it. The Maykrs used to the shield to weaken him for sure.

By that same logic Tau and Gluon were bad, becasue Gordon Freeman doesn't use them in Half-Life 2. Apparently Halo's DMRs and grenade launchers were so bad the entire UNSC just stopped using them after Halo Reach, because it's missing in CE, 2, 3 and ODST, and decided to give it another try in Halo 4.

Spoiler warning: After they lost control of him, Doomguy used the shield to kill Kreed Maykr, the Witch and presumably used to decapitate Ahzrak himself.

After Half-Life 1 Dr. Freeman goes to stasis, he loses everything INCLUDING the HEV Suit. We don't know how Dr. Kleiner gets it back, and the very first weapon is a crowbar, a tool pretty easily to find everywhere.

Nope, he decapitates Ahzrak with the flail one.

The shield is tied to his state of slavery and is quite bluntly used as a symbol of his slavery, in anger, at the end of this game's story.

So it would not be a stretch or rationalisation to suggest he does not wish to use this shield again.

Nope, he smashes Ahzrak with the flail, then the camera cuts away and you can hear sawing in the distance, then Doomguy tosses Ahzrak's severed head.

It's a chainsaw shield, what are you on about, it's a spinning chain of serrated steel links, it's not exactly surgically precise.

Even if Doomguy used his own teeth to chew off Ahzrak's head, the point is that his shield is paramount to his success, in the story and in gameplay.
