Performance NEEDS to be addressed
Really disappointed in the performance compared to 2016 and Eternal. Really hope it gets addressed.

doom the dark ages is more demanding than the previous doom games, because of ray tracing. ray tracing can't be turned off. what is your system specs?

Why does a game with built in ray tracing look worse than Eternal that has optional ray tracing?
I'd say performance is lacking as well.
I have an RTX 3080 which isn't even being pushed hard, the game's CPU time is 2x GPU time.
I have a 7500F, which handles literally every other game with 12ms or less of CPU time (usually 8), but in the Dark Ages it goes up to 16ms.

Is anyone using an older driver ?

Not the 576.40 driver ?

Nvidia's drivers for the past 6 months have been trash to say the least.

Really? I thought the game ran very well, at least for me.
Everything on the highest ultra nightmare, DLSS DLAA, and I didn't even use FrameGen 100+ FPS, I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly the game ran.

I'm still using 561.xx driver, lol!
Honestly, people don't need to download the newest driver every single time unless any issues occur.

The game is running well for me too (i5-13600KF, 32 GB, RTX 4080 FE, Windows 11 Pro 24H2 using the 576.40 graphics driver @ 1440p Ultra Nightmare settings, DLAA plus framegen). Getting around 130-140 fps, which is much lower than DOOM Eternal, for sure and really 65-70 fps without frame gen but the important thing is that the game feels smooth and responsive at all times.

And that is all I want from a game; I don't really care what framerate it is running at as long as I can max out the settings and enjoy a smooth, stutter-free game which is definitely the case with this game. Not once did the game ever feel laggy or unresponsive, granted I've only played the first chapter and a bit of the second. However, based on the previous two 'modern' DOOM games I expect that this will be a well-optimised and performant game since idTech scales well across different hardware.

Now imagine if this game was running on Unreal Engine 5... oh the horror...

Runs well in 4k on my GT 1060 and Pentium II.

It wont get fixed! The game is built and reliable on RayTracing sadly! This would never be allowed in John Carmack days... he would NOT allow 100% performance increase to cut corners in development. I think its a tragedy! ID Software had with Doom Eternal THE ENGINE! .. Setting standards in perforamance built on Carmacks legacy. And now the performance is totally ruined (more than double so demanding) just to implement the controversial RayTracing which we all just wanna disable. Very sad ID is following the trend tp screw the players and let them be dependent on DLSS, Frame Generation and what not. Something that was NOT required in 4K in Doom Eternal. But expect no fix. Its baked into the engine and does not support disable.

In Carmack days PCs were 5000 times slower. Not a very strong argument

I don't even notice it in my own gameplay. But in Eternal you could see your own reflection from many shiny surfaces, it had so many metal surfaces. In Dark Ages it's mostly stone.

64gb ram
3080
5900x

well i guess this is the time for my routine soapbox to say that the marginal increase in fidelity that ray tracing grants isn't worth the performance cost needed to achieve it. They need to give the option to turn it off. :|
