First level thoughts
Gameplay is... interesting so far. the slayer feels much closer to the original games than 2016 or Eternal, I'd describe him like the Hulk with a shotgun, he's fast, and on the proper difficulty semi-fragile. being dumb will kill you quick, but even a bit of smarts and you feel invincible as the slayer should. his leaps and bounds feel HEAVY, he basically crosses the entire battlefield in two shield bashes. much less arcade-y than eternal's flame belch for armor and shoulder mounted grenade launcher and much closer to the Originals with sprinting around for armor and health (while of course getting your ammo and some hp from beating demons down.

im not fully sold yet, its fun currently, but i find myself really missing those glory kills. it feels like it got changed in this just to be different instead of inherently better. so far running smooth and looking gorgeous with a dual 4070, excited to see the rest of the game.

already i can tell The Dark Ages is going to be even more divisive than Eternal

I'm honestly bored. I loved all the past Dooms, including the divisive Doom Eternal, but this is just so samey and coupled with dull music. I'm still killing demons from hell so there's that but what an underwhelming first impression so far.

Same, they raised the bar up so high with Eternal that this just feels like a regression made to appease people who didn't like that game.

it feels fine to me, although instead of smashing a dozen of weak mobs with shield lunge, I'd prefer shooting them.

I like the visual style of the game, much better than eternal.
forward sprint is stupid, just why?

after fear mongering that modern internet does with hysterical commitment, I expected way less from the game, but the game actually feels okay so far.

so far the most gripping thing is the slayer's movement and the setting, combat is so-so, which is a little sad, especially going from the A of 2016 to the S+ of Eternal's near perfected game design

Yeah the first level was extraordinarily boring, but when I got the shield saw the game started to become more fun and the mech gameplay is punchy and novel.
The music is very very very underwhelming and lacks charm.

yeah bro, remember all that fun and non-boring action in doom 3? what a great time was that with a trusty shotgun, huh?

Agreed on the visual style. Eternal's sci-fi earth setting just didnt work that well for me, i liked the older locations more than the hell on earth stuff. forward sprint is kinda odd but im used to it from playing a lot of Soldier 76 in Overwatch lol.

and total agree on the first point, even taking down zombies in eternal felt good, here its just "40 dudes, now they gone, whatever" its like having a bfg tied to your wrist

Doom 3 had its problems and was definitely the weakest in the whole series with its gimmick of enemies coming out of this and that hole every single time but I am starting to feel like this is going to give 3 a run for its money for weakest Doom ever. I am bored. Go here, go there and just shield bash everything. Parry this, punch that. I don't think I ever felt bored in any of these games and certainly not Doom 3 with its more horror approach. Also gotta get to that Phobos mod for Doom 3 eventually as well. I see that's pretty top notch.

glad you like it! i'm definitely going to give it its fair chance, but its a bit less immediately addictive like Eternal's or even 2016's flow of combat

I have watched about 2 hours of live gameplay. looks like absolute trash. hard pass.

definitely fair. but then again, you cant decide Eternal as a game, or 2016 for that matter, by the very first level... I'd like to see what the 20th+ levels are like, see if theyre as crazy as Final Sin was. Hope Dark Ages has things like slayer gates. But a lot of it does seem dumbed down for players that couldn't do as well in eternal; UV so far is very, very easy (at lvl 4 rn). But there are the sliders, Id imagine all at max are crazy

ya it gets better once you get the saw and music so far honestly sucks ...lets see how the upgrades make the game feel down the line...first level was kinda boring buts intro so....
