Fixed it for me at least.
Because for example:
you are using plasma rifle and want to swap into super shotgun
you press shotgun button, but it is normal shotgun
you have to wait for the animation
then once the normal shotgun is active, you press shotgun button again
and wait for the super shotgun animation for it to become active
??????
I have two controllers, both are unplugged and I still cant work the weapon wheel. IMO its bugged because it worked perfectly in Doom Eternal.
Go to properties of the game in steam library and disable steam input under the controller tab.
It's definitely wonky which it wasn't in Eternal. The animations are pointlessly slow. Often you simply can't switch and need to release and try again. I have no idea why they decided to not have all variants accessible on the wheel.
The game is obviously massively easier but it's also clunkier. I love the game still but it's just a pretty big step back from what was literally the best shooter ever made.
I guess it's lucky that you barely need to switch weapons. In their zeal to simplify they've made it so every weapon works on everything so it's all what you feel like using.
Maybe some people love this change but I very much think it hurts the game.
