Doom Eternal was a terrible mistake.
It forces you into one playstyle. You cannot just strafe, jump and shoot, you always have to collect things by using special attacks(which are embarrassingly weak, the "flamethrower" is pathetic). The way you play is the same every time. Also, you're constantly observing your ammo, shield and health count, not focusing on the game. The stupid game forces you into play rock paper scissors thing, this is supposed to be a hardcore fps game! This is not what gaming is all about. Gaming is all about choice. Yes, even mindless fps games. People praised this because it was a "new" mechanic in an fps game, which is rare, but it's a ♥♥♥♥ mechanic. The first Doom from 93 had more choice than Eternal. I hope this game ends with this thing. It was unplayable.

uhhh .. i don't know about you but you can strafe , shoot and jump in the game . Sounds to me this is more of a YOU problem and you just need to get good.

I am also very bad at the game but hey at least im trying to get better at it.
I feel the same. Doom 2016 was way better. Eternal was too much arena fighting with too hectic gameplay and stressful resource management.

There’s no rock paper scissors mechanics in Eternal.

As for this game, you’re going to have a very bad time if you try to play it by “just strafing, jumping and shooting” and ignore the shield mechanics. So maybe, skip it instead.

Yeah i agree with OP on the most part (except the strafe jump part. Or does OP literally mean the strafe jump in the traditional strafejump way)

But hey this should have been posted in the Doom Eternal forum not here. What has this issue has to do with Dark Ages?
I think Dark Ages will be better since you do more damage up close. The game wants you to stand and fight.
And the Doom Slayer can run now when you press the joystick. I enjoyed DOOM 2016 a lot more than I did Eternal.

The game wants you to parry and melee. If you try to actually shoot the big demons for afar, you’ll do minimal damage and will be subjected to brutal ranged attacks. The game wants you to come closer to those demons, parry their green swings and counter-strike in melee. Every weapon has an upgrade or two that significantly increases its effectiveness after a successful parry. No freedom at all!

Well nothing much changed in the concept:
Eternal: "Here is an entire arsenal but you are forced to swap through them and use them all even those you don't like"
Dark Ages: "Here is an entire arsenal but you are forced to get close and melee and ranged weapons are not favored to be used even if you like them"

Yeah okay i was heavily exaggerating and joking. :D But there is always some truth in jokes.

BTW i'm still curious what OP meant by strafe jumping. And i'm curious. Does OP know what "strafe jumping" means? :D
No, i don't think DOOM ETERNAL was bad at all.

In fact it was a step in the right direction, i'm not sure how many people remember that the DOOM and QUAKE games were always meant to be fast-paced, filled with mobility like jumping and strafing.

They are supposed to make the player FEEL like he can pull of ANY move - that's what made them so good, that's why QUAKE 3 is still played to this day, because it has mobility, you can get any type of kill in the game through almost any type of movement.

This is what also makes the COD games so appealing in my opinion, they're fast-paced, very mobility-based and yet a lot of people still like to crap on them.

Hell for those that don't know both DOOM and COD series even use the same engine if you look it up on the wiki.

yes... worst doom game ever..i dont even class it part of the franchise. completes garbage. I hated it. and i was not a big fan of 2016 either since it started this arena map ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
