More demons on screen combined with bullet hell gameplay just isn't compatible with the old glory kill system. They also want you to feel like you're in the movie 300 and stand against the hordes - you can sync into a lot of demons at once now without stopping and devs explain that pretty well.
I think it's great - reminds me a lot of picking up a berserk in classic doom and then launching imps across the map. The slayer has a mean punch demons fear and we get to feel the weight behind it for once instead of having a canned animation do everything for you.
I'm glad they are gone.
2016 Doom was a great reboot being close to old Doom games. But Eternal was a huge detour. Just as Dark Ages will be a huge detour. But even iD devs said they want to have every doom game to be very different.
But claiming "not having glory kills will make the game not to be a Doom game" is stupid as hell.
But hey i will now use the exact same argument Doom Eternal fanboys said every time people were voicing their unhappyness about Eternal's mechanics: "don't like it? Go play something else". Ah sweet justice.
but we can truly conclude only when the game comes out
